The Sweeper/Broom Truck Operator is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and professional appearance of Martin Marietta’s plant locations, including quarries, asphalt plants, and surrounding roadways. This role involves the safe operation of a heavy-duty pickup broom or street sweeper to mitigate dust, clear debris (such as rock and gravel), and ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations. As a key member of the site maintenance team, The Operator also assists with basic equipment upkeep and may be cross trained to support other quarry operations.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safely operate motorized street sweepers and broom trucks to clean plant interiors, parking lots, curbs, gutters, and public rights-of-way.
- Perform and document mandatory Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections. Check fuel, fluid levels, air pressure, and hydraulic systems daily.
- Change sweeper brushes/brooms as needed and perform minor equipment repairs and adjustments to ensure peak operational efficiency.
- Adhere to all Martin Marietta safety policies, including the Safe Driving Policy, as well as MSHA compliance and regulations. Maintain a prominent level of situational awareness regarding heavy equipment traffic.
- Ensure the removal of hazards and debris (broken pavement, millings, and dust) to prevent runoff and maintain site air quality.
- Periodically sweep public entrance roads and exit points to prevent "track-out" of materials onto public highways.
- Assist maintenance teams with plant housekeeping, shoveling, and manual labor during downtime. May be required to cross-train on other mobile equipment like water trucks or skid steers.
- Maintain effective contact with dispatch and plant personnel via radio to coordinate cleaning routes without disrupting production.
- Assist with general labor tasks such as shoveling, raking, and trash removal around the plant or conveyor systems.
- At the company’s discretion, train on other mobile equipment (e.g., water trucks or small loaders) to provide relief and operational flexibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required; 6 months to 1 year of experience in Construction, Mining, or Aggregates is preferred.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for plant maintenance and equipment servicing.
Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders.
Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.
Working Conditions
All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.

COMPENSATION
The hiring range for this position is $25.00 -$35.00 exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The hiring range for this role represents the base compensation we expect to pay for the position at time of hire and does not represent the total possible base pay of the position.
