Bronx Green-Up Apprentice

Reports To:

Outreach and Education Manager

The Bronx Green-Up Apprentice will assist in all aspects of the Bronx Green-Up(BGU) program. Responsibilities include: preparing for, documenting andassisting with educational and horticultural projects in community and schoolgardens and urban farms, as well as preparing and updating materials in theoffice. The BGU Apprentices will report to theOutreach and EducationManager.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare for community workdays at community garden and urban farmsites.
  • Work closely with BGU staff to develop and implement gardeningworkshops, events and projects.
  • Assist with community garden and urban farm workshops andworkdays.
  • Organize and maintain materials, tools, garden inventory database, andphotos.
  • Assist with BGU events, projects, outreach and educational efforts asneeded.

Qualifications

  • Experience in community outreach and/or education.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work independently and as a teamplayer.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions, aswell as indoors.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications or equivalent.
  • Prior experience working in community gardening, urban horticulture orurban agriculture preferred.
  • Experience with community engagement, particularly related to foodjustice and/or community health preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Bronx preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills a plus.

Physical Demand & Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to,at minimum, work outdoors in all weather conditions in all seasons,stand, sit, crouch, kneel, and walk, use hand tools and power equipment,and lift andor move up to 40 pounds. The employee is required toperform tasks repetitively.

Work Schedule

  • Wednesday- Friday, 9-5pm

Rate

  • $22 Per Hour
