About the role

The FUV Bridge program is a pre-enrollment program intended to prepare those admitted students who have English academic challenges or low language attainment. The Bridge program is seeking an Instructor of Critical Reading. This role is designed for an emerging educator, with a passion for student development to help incoming students with the rigors of transition into a Liberal Arts curriculum.

The instructor will implement the Critical Reading component of our summer Bridge Program. The primary goal of this role is to move students beyond basic comprehension toward analytical thinking, academic inquiry, and active engagement with complex texts.

Employment Type

Part-time temporary. This role requires a commitment from July 13 to September 4, 2026. The expected workload is 20 hours per week during the Bridge Program from July 27 to Aug 28, 2026, and 10 hours per week for the remainder of the contract.

Roles and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Delivery: Facilitate critical reading instruction for a cohort of newly admitted students. This includes conducting practice activities to achieve specific learning outcomes in reading and analytical thinking.
  • Continuous Feedback: Provide daily, actionable feedback on student submissions including formal assignments and discussion board engagement.
  • Skills Workshops: Lead skills practice sessions aimed at expanding English language proficiency and academic literacy.
  • Student Advising: Conduct regular 1-on-1 learning advising sessions to provide individualized support and track progress in the advising log.
  • Assessment: Evaluate homework and mark major summative assessments for the cohort.
  • Administration: Ensure all administrative tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

Qualifications

What we look for

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., English, Education, Literature, Humanities, or Social Sciences).
  • Experience: Previous experience in tutoring or classroom instruction.
  • Skills: Exceptional time management, a supportive pedagogical attitude, and a collaborative "team player" mindset.
  • Language: High proficiency in English.

Preferred:

  • TEFL/TESOL certification.
  • Experience with a Liberal Arts style education.
  • Experience working with Vietnamese students in a higher education or preparatory context.
