This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Bridge Inspection Project Manager/Team Leader for our Mountain/Pacific Northwest Region Bridge Inspection Group This position is based out of our Denver office with flexibility to work from in offices in Utah, Arizona, Idaho, or Montana. You will work closely with our Mountain/Pacific Northwest Region Bridge Inspection Group Lead on a full-time basis with business development and winning bridge/structure inspection and/or load rating work for state, transit and local clients. You will be expected to lead structural inspections, as required, while we grow this region’s bridge inspection group. Travel may be required for client interaction and structural inspections.

You will utilize your education, licensure, NHI/FHWA bridge/structure inspection certifications, and relevant work experience to perform inspections of bridges, culverts, tunnels, ancillary structures, retaining walls, and other structures for our clients. Bridge and tunnel inspection/reporting will typically performed per NBIS/NTIS standards and individual client guidance. Non-NBIS structure inspection/reporting may also be performed. Inspection reports will utilize various asset management software (AASHTOWare BrM, etc.) and may require recommendations for prioritized maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, replacement, and/or load rating update.

Your Impact

  • Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the bridge inspection discipline and function, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project and deliverables are successfully achieved within the business sector.
  • Lead larger-scale, more complex bridge inspection projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
  • Responsible for the pursuit and development of the bridge inspection business and the successful execution of work for current and potential clients within the Mountain/Pacific Northwest Region.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Support the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Bridge Inspection work for WSP in the Mountain/Pacific Northwest Region.
  • Responsible for the profitable performance of the individual projects and the successful completion of the projects within the specified area.
  • Assist with the preparation of an annual update to business tactical action plans within the specified area.
  • Meet with various public or private entities or individuals to discuss issues relating to a variety of engineering/construction challenges and programs.
  • Schedule engineering discipline meetings, providing updates and recommendations to ensure that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to inculcate discipline expertise and innovation into project work.
  • Serve as a lead representative/liaison to a variety of external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities.
  • Develop and inform proposal and project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics. Accountable for planning, development and management of projects in compliance with all applicable City/State/Federal codes and regulations, and in accordance with all acceptable engineering practices.
  • Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents that result in sound engineering and regulatory conclusions.
  • Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.
  • Develop a client base for providing bridge inspection services while identifying additional business development opportunities, and cross-selling of other WSP capabilities.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff.
  • Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide “trusted advisor” service and future ready solutions for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure
  • 10+ years of experience in bridge inspection (NBIS) with transportation clients.
  • Bridge Inspection Project Manager/Team Leader with experience in successful management of bridge inspection projects.
  • NBIS Certified Bridge Inspection Team Leader with up-to-date certifications.
  • NHI/FHWA Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges/Nonredundant Steel Tension Steel Members Certificate (130078)
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrate high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Work independently with minimal oversight and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Physically capable of performing continuous field work, including working at heights and in close quarters, climbing, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented structure.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
  • Ability to supervise, train and direct the work of team members.
  • Cognizant of time and budget management.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NTIS Certified Tunnel Inspection Team Leader with up-to-date certifications.
  • Additional FHWA/NHI/OSHA Training:
    • 130087 Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures.
    • 135086 Plan of Action for Scour Critical Bridges
    • 135047 Stream Stability and Scour at Highway Bridges for Bridge Inspectors
    • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour Training
  • Experience with the inspection of railroad and complex bridges, tunnels and ancillary structures.
  • Familiar with or certifications in various NDT techniques and UAS applications
  • Familiar with our certifications in rope access techniques and/or UAS operations.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $120,000 - $187,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $135,000 - $200,000
