You will guide field teams, coordinate complex field logistics, ensure safety in challenging environments, and provide immediate engineering judgment when critical conditions are identified.

This role is hands-on, field-forward, and ideal for a licensed engineer who thrives in both technical analysis and real-time problem solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively manage bridge inspection projects while overseeing work of bridge inspection teams.
  • Oversee and track project schedule and budgets.
  • Review bridge plans and previous inspection reports and plan field operations.
  • Schedule and coordinate field activities with clients, railroads, police agencies, subcontractors, and equipment vendors.
  • Assign and supervise team members during field activities and office tasks.
  • Prepare and implement health & safety plans and traffic control plans and ensure safe field operations.
  • Perform and supervise technical field inspections of complex and signature bridges and related structures as well as highway ancillary structures based on National Bridge Inspection and Federal Railroad Administration Standards.
  • Operate specialized bridge inspection access equipment (manlift, bucket truck, under bridge crane) as required.
  • Accurately document inspection findings with precise notes, sketches, and digital photographs encompassing all defects located.
  • Evaluate seriousness of bridge defects and make on-the-spot decisions as required.
  • Interact with clients, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and equipment vendors in a confident and professional manner.
  • Prepare accurate, complete inspection reports in accordance with industry standards and applicable agency manuals.
  • Ensure all professional licenses and bridge inspection certifications are current.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering/Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in PA.
  • 5+ years of Bridge Inspection experience.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
  • FHWA/NHI 2-week “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges” (130055) or 5-day “Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers” (130056) and Refresher (130053) certifications.

  • Physical ability to continuously tolerate harsh work environments, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to mentor, and work in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with little supervision.
