  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary conferences, tumor boards and other collaborative clinical activities within the breast disease team.
  • Develop an independent academic program in basic, translational and/or clinical research aligned with the candidate’s interests and expertise.
  • Participate in clinical research and clinical trials designed to advance surgical and multidisciplinary treatment approaches for breast cancer.
  • Contribute to the education and mentorship of fellows, residents, medical students and other trainees.
  • Participate in scholarly activities, including presentations, publications and opportunities for extramural research support.

About the Department

The Department of Breast Surgery at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is part of a highly collaborative breast oncology program that brings together specialists in surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, breast imaging, pathology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and other disciplines to provide comprehensive, coordinated care for patients with breast cancer.

The program is led by Kazuaki Takabe, MD, PhD, FACS, FSSO, Clinical Chief of the Department of Breast Surgery, Breast Program Leader, Breast Cancer Service Line Leader, and The Alfiero Foundation Endowed Chair in Breast Oncology. An accomplished surgeon-scientist, Dr. Takabe brings together clinical breast surgical oncology and laboratory-based research with a focus on translating scientific discoveries into improved outcomes for patients.

The department offers a strong environment for surgeons seeking to combine exceptional clinical care with academic medicine, research, education, and innovation. Faculty work within an established multidisciplinary model and have opportunities to participate in clinical and translational research, clinical trials, mentorship, and the education of fellows, residents, and medical students. Roswell Park’s Breast Oncology Fellowship is accredited by the Society of Surgical Oncology and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative team with an established record of interdisciplinary care and research while having the opportunity to help advance the next generation of breast surgery at Roswell Park, including the development of comprehensive oncoplastic breast surgery and robotic mastectomy programs.
