Breast Imaging Quality Assurance Specialist

McLeod Regional Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Breast Imaging Quality Assurance Specialist to oversee quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement initiatives across the Breast Imaging program. This role ensures compliance with Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requirements and supports the delivery of high-quality mammographic imaging services that aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
The Breast Imaging Quality Assurance Specialist serves as a key resource for quality control activities, regulatory readiness, staff education, and process improvement while collaborating closely with Breast Imaging leadership, physicians, and technologists to maintain excellence in patient care and imaging quality.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and quality control programs to ensure compliance with MQSA, FDA, ACR, NAPBC, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Perform and oversee required quality control testing of mammography equipment, including calibration, image quality assessment, and performance monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records related to QA/QC activities, audits, corrective actions, regulatory inspections, and patient outcomes.
  • Investigate imaging discrepancies, equipment issues, and patient concerns, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director of Breast Imaging, Breast Imaging Supervisor, and departmental leadership to develop and maintain imaging protocols that support patient safety and diagnostic accuracy.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and ongoing education of staff regarding quality assurance processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the development, review, and revision of departmental policies and procedures related to quality and compliance.
  • Coordinate continuing education and competency assessments for Breast Imaging Technologists and Radiologists to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA, patient confidentiality standards, and MQSA notification requirements.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance schedules and vendor service documentation.
  • Partner with leadership to identify opportunities for quality improvement and process optimization.
  • Review and update the Breast Imaging Coordinator Reporting Home Page daily.
  • Provide patient care support as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Mammography experience required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Quality Control Testing experience required.
  • Experience with MQSA, ACR, FDA, and other regulatory standards governing mammography required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR), PACS, and Microsoft Office applications required.
Education
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved and accredited 24-month School of Radiologic Technology required.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Registered or registry-eligible through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Mammography (ARRT-M) required.
    • Registry-eligible candidates must obtain ARRT-M certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association required.
