Description:

Do you thrive on the adrenaline of a breaking story? Are you the person who sees a plume of smoke or a line of sirens and wonders why? KOLN is looking for a high-energy, digital-savvy Breaking News MMJ/Producer to join our morning team. This isn't just a reporting job; it’s a chance to command the 10/11 Alert Center, drive our digital desk, and help Lincoln wake up with the information they need to start their day. If you’re ready to be the first word on the stories that matter most, we want to talk to you.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Command the Alert Center: Own the morning headlines from our digital desk during 10/11 This Morning. You’ll anchor breaking news hits with urgency, authority, and a conversational style that connects with viewers on every screen.
- Chase the Story: Hit the ground running (literally) to breaking news scenes across the Capital City. You’ll be the eyes and ears for our audience, providing live reports that capture the "right now" of a developing situation.
- Drive Digital Engagement: Keep a pulse on our digital platforms. You’ll craft compelling social content and send out breaking news pushes that keep our audience informed wherever they are.
- Amplify the Weather Experience: When the weather turns, you’re the bridge between the science and the street. You’ll drive the 10/11 Weather Shield, providing real-time, live coverage of conditions to show our viewers exactly what they’ll face when they walk out the door.
- Master the Control Room: Cross-train as a producer to take the lead of the show when needed. You’ll learn the nuts and bolts of Lincoln’s most-trusted newscast, making you a multi-tooled threat in any newsroom.
- Craft Urgent Narratives: Write scripts that tell a story. You’ll locate the best video, find the most reliable sources, and produce segments that move at the speed of news.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- A News Junkie’s Heart: You live for the scoop. You have a deep interest in local and national news and a natural curiosity that drives you to find the "human" angle in every headline.
- Killer News Judgment: You know the difference between a minor delay and a major emergency. You have the confidence to make the call in the heat of the moment and the street smarts to navigate a chaotic scene.
- Digital-First Mindset: You understand that news happens on phones before it happens on TVs. You’re comfortable creating content for social and streaming platforms and know how to make a story "pop" online.
- On-Air Presence: Whether you have a year in a professional newsroom or standout experience at a college station, you bring a natural, energetic presence to the camera.
- Self-Starter DNA: You’re a proactive decision-maker who thrives on independence but knows when to lean on your team for guidance.
- Urgency and Empathy: You move fast because the news moves fast, but you never lose sight of the people behind the stories. You treat every interview with the respect it deserves.
- Technical Scrappiness: Familiarity with Sony/JVC cameras, Edius, and ENPS is a huge plus, but your willingness to learn and master new tech is what really matters.
