POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Directorate of Strategic Communications, Division of Outreach, Visitor Center (HQ USAFA/CMOV), serving as the primary Brand Ambassador and public-facing representative for the Academy Visitor Center.
The Brand Ambassador is responsible for providing visitors with accurate and engaging information regarding the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, and the State of Colorado. This position independently manages daily visitor reception operations, supports special events and distinguished visitor programs, operates audiovisual systems, assists volunteer docents, and helps ensure a safe, professional, and welcoming visitor experience.
This position serves as the sole contractor employee assigned to this function and is expected to exercise sound judgment, strong customer service skills, and professional communication while representing the Academy to local, national, and international visitors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Welcome visitors and provide accurate information regarding USAFA facilities, exhibits, programs, ceremonies, and points of interest.
- Provide facility orientation, wayfinding assistance, and distribute visitor information and self-guided tour materials.
- Respond to visitor inquiries in person, by telephone, and through electronic communications.
- Make public announcements regarding tours, theater presentations, planetarium shows, and scheduled activities.
- Disseminate approved public information concerning Academy events, ceremonies, and activities.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and welcoming visitor environment.
- Conduct opening and closing procedures, including facility inspections and security checks.
- Perform routine walkthroughs to ensure exhibits, displays, and visitor areas are operational and presentable.
- Prepare theaters, conference rooms, and event spaces for daily operations and special events.
- Operate and monitor audiovisual and multimedia systems.
- Coordinate troubleshooting and maintenance activities for audiovisual equipment.
- Maintain accurate visitor attendance statistics, activity logs, and operational records.
- Support volunteer docent activities, including providing guidance, safety information, and tracking volunteer hours.
- Assist with onboarding and familiarization training for new front desk personnel and volunteers.
- Support tourism initiatives and visitor outreach activities in coordination with state and local tourism organizations.
- Coordinate preparation, packaging, and shipment of informational materials to visitor centers and outreach locations.
- Assist with protocol support for official ceremonies, distinguished visitors, and government-sponsored events.
- Escort or assist VIP visitors as directed.
- Monitor visitor areas for safety and security concerns and report incidents through established procedures.
- Coordinate with security personnel regarding installation access requirements and visitor-related concerns.
- Provide professional support during emergencies until appropriate response personnel arrive.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, contract requirements, and company policies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned in support of Visitor Center operations.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Hospitality Management, Communications, Public Relations, Tourism, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred or ability to obtain certification after hire.
- Training in customer service, visitor services, tourism, hospitality, or public engagement is desirable.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in customer service, hospitality, tourism, visitor services, public outreach, administrative support, or a related field.
- Experience working directly with the public in a professional environment.
- Experience operating office equipment, communication systems, and computer applications.
- Experience supporting special events, tours, ceremonies, or VIP visits preferred.
- Experience working in a military, government, museum, tourism, visitor center, or educational environment preferred.
- Familiarity with USAFA, Department of Defense organizations, or military culture is desirable.

- Ability to interact professionally with visitors from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to learn, retain, and accurately communicate information regarding USAFA, Colorado Springs, and Colorado tourism resources.

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced visitor environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, email systems, and internet-based applications.
- Ability to operate audiovisual and multimedia equipment.
- Ability to maintain professionalism while handling sensitive or difficult situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to maneuver throughout visitor center facilities and event spaces.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to operate computer equipment, phones, audiovisual systems, and other office equipment.
- Ability to assist with event setup and logistics as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is primarily performed at the United States Air Force Academy Visitor Center.
- Daily interaction with large volumes of visitors, guests, volunteers, and government personnel.
- Environment includes office, exhibit, theater, conference room, and public-facing visitor service areas.
- Work may include weekends, holidays, special events, and occasional extended hours based on mission requirements.
- Position requires maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- No direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Provides operational support, guidance, and coordination for volunteer docents and visitor center volunteers as assigned.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to obtain and maintain access credentials required for entry to the United States Air Force Academy installation.
- Ability to successfully pass all required background screenings.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and customer-service-focused demeanor.
- Must be available to work a 40-hour workweek, including routine Saturday and Sunday operations.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Must complete all required government and company training requirements.
- Ability to represent the United States Air Force Academy and Aleut Federal in a professional manner at all times.
