Job Description

BMD’s Specialty Products Division supplies lumber yards, home centers, hardware stores, dealers, and professional customers with quality building products, including insulation, siding, fasteners, concrete accessories, agricultural wire and fencing, fire-rated products, engineered wood products, and other specialty materials. Our Dunn, North Carolina branch is a key part of BMD Specialty’s East Coast presence, supporting customers throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and surrounding markets with a strong focus on customer service, operational execution, product knowledge, and long-term business growth.

We are seeking a results-driven, customer-focused Branch Manager to lead our BMD Specialty Division branch in Dunn, North Carolina This role is responsible for the overall performance, profitability, and day-to-day leadership of the branch, including sales, operations, customer service, inventory, delivery, safety, and team development. The Branch Manager will have ownership of branch-level financial results, including revenue growth, gross margin performance, operating expenses, productivity, and P&L accountability.

The Branch Manager is responsible for leading the overall performance, growth, profitability, and operational execution of the Dunn branch. This position provides day-to-day leadership for branch sales, operations, customer service, warehouse, inventory, delivery, safety, and employee development while driving accountability for financial performance, customer satisfaction, market share growth, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Lead

Branch Leadership and P&L Ownership

· Own and manage branch-level financial performance, including revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, productivity, and profitability.

· Lead the branch to achieve budget expectations, sales goals, margin targets, service standards, and operational objectives.

· Review financial results, sales trends, operating metrics, and performance gaps to identify opportunities and implement corrective action.

· Participate in annual budgeting, business planning, expense management, resource planning, and forecasting activities.

· Make sound business decisions that balance customer service, cost control, team capacity, inventory investment, and return on investment.

· Communicate branch performance, opportunities, risks, and challenges to leadership in a timely and transparent manner.

Sales Management and Market Strategy

· Lead branch sales strategy for the Dunn market and surrounding East Coast territories.

· Manage sales activity, pipeline development, customer retention, account growth, and new business development.

· Conduct regular pipeline reviews to evaluate opportunities, customer needs, probability of close, expected revenue, gross margin, timing, and next steps.

· Lead sales forecasting by reviewing customer activity, market conditions, account plans, sales history, product demand, and branch capacity.

· Partner with sales team members to build territory plans, customer growth plans, product-line strategies, and market development initiatives.

· Drive accountability for sales calls, quote follow-up, customer communication, pricing discipline, CRM usage, and margin improvement.

· Identify opportunities to grow market share, expand product offerings, improve customer solutions, and strengthen BMD’s competitive position.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with key accounts, vendors, suppliers, dealers, contractors, and internal partners.

Operations, Service, Inventory, and Delivery

· Provide leadership for branch operations, warehouse, delivery, inventory, customer service, and related support functions.

· Ensure products are delivered safely, accurately, on time, and in alignment with customer expectations.

· Optimize workflows, staffing, scheduling, warehouse organization, delivery routes, order accuracy, inventory availability, and service levels.

· Promote disciplined inventory management, including product availability, purchasing coordination, stock levels, cycle counts, obsolete inventory, and working capital utilization.

· Partner with purchasing and supply chain teams to ensure inventory supports customer demand while managing branch investment and cost.

· Drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement to reduce cost-to-serve, improve productivity, increase accuracy, and strengthen the customer experience.

· Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional branch environment.

Team Leadership and Employee Ownership Culture

· Lead, coach, develop, and evaluate branch employees to ensure performance expectations are clear and consistently achieved.

· Build a high-performing, accountable, customer-focused, and safety-oriented team.

· Create a work environment that reflects BMD’s values of employee ownership, integrity, people, accountability, communication, teamwork, excellence, and continuous improvement.

· Recruit, onboard, train, and retain employees who support BMD’s culture and customer service standards.

· Establish clear goals, communication routines, performance standards, and follow-up processes.

· Conduct regular branch meetings to communicate priorities, sales performance, operational updates, safety expectations, customer needs, and business opportunities.

· Address performance issues promptly and professionally, partnering with HR and leadership as needed.

· Support employee development, cross-training, succession planning, and bench strength within the branch.

Customer, Vendor, and Cross-Functional Partnerships

· Serve as a visible leader for the Dunn branch with customers, vendors, employees, and internal business partners.

· Strengthen relationships with new and existing customers to support retention, loyalty, satisfaction, and long-term growth.

· Partner with vendors and suppliers to support product knowledge, training, pricing opportunities, promotional activity, and market development.

· Collaborate with sales, operations, purchasing, finance, HR, safety, and division leadership to support branch and company objectives.

· Resolve customer, vendor, inventory, service, delivery, and operational issues in a timely and professional manner.

· Represent BMD with integrity, professionalism, and ownership in the market.

Safety, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement

· Promote a safety-first culture across all branch operations.

· Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, safety standards, applicable employment laws, DOT/FMCSA requirements where applicable, and other regulatory requirements.

· Monitor safety practices, equipment usage, facility conditions, delivery processes, and warehouse procedures.

· Identify and implement improvements that increase efficiency, reduce risk, strengthen communication, and improve service quality.

· Model BMD’s values and hold the team accountable for safe, ethical, professional, and customer-focused behavior.

Success in this role will be measured by the Branch Manager’s ability to:

· Achieve branch revenue, gross margin, expense, and profitability goals.

· Manage the branch P&L with discipline and accountability.

· Improve sales pipeline visibility, forecasting accuracy, and market strategy execution.

· Grow customer relationships, customer retention, market share, and new business opportunities.

What We’re Looking For

· Progressive leadership experience in building materials, distribution, wholesale, construction products, lumber, hardware, home center supply, logistics, manufacturing, or a related industry.

· Demonstrated ability to lead a branch, business unit, department, or multi-functional team with responsibility for sales, operations, customer service, and financial performance.

· Proven ability to manage or influence P&L results, including revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, productivity, and profitability.

· Strong sales management skills, including pipeline reviews, forecasting, territory planning, account planning, customer relationship management, pricing discipline, and market strategy.

· Ability to lead both sales and operations in a fast-paced, customer-focused distribution environment.

· Strong business and financial acumen, including the ability to interpret financial reports, sales trends, operating metrics, and performance data.

· Proven ability to build customer, vendor, employee, and cross-functional relationships.

· Strong communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs.

· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the market as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, or a related field.

· Five or more years of progressive leadership, branch management, sales management, operations management, or business development experience.

· Experience in building products, insulation, siding, lumber yards, home centers, hardware stores, specialty distribution, or construction-related products.

· Experience using CRM systems, ERP systems, inventory systems, Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and business reporting tools.

· Experience participating in annual budgeting, sales forecasting, business planning, and market strategy development.

· Experience leading teams across sales, warehouse, delivery, customer service, inventory, and operations.

This role is in an office, warehouse, branch, and field environment. The Branch Manager will regularly interact with employees, customers, vendors, drivers, warehouse teams, sales teams, and company leadership. Travel within the local market and surrounding territory is required. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
