Job Title: Varsity Boys Track & Field Head Coach
Position Overview:
Cooperstown Central School is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Varsity Boys Track & Field Head Coach to lead the high school boys track and field program. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship while developing student-athletes across a range of track and field events. The coach will be responsible for planning practices, managing meets, and ensuring the overall success of the program.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead daily practices tailored to sprints, distance, jumps, throws, and relays
- Develop individualized training programs to meet the needs of diverse athletes
- Instruct athletes in proper technique, conditioning, and injury prevention
- Supervise athletes during all practices, meets, and team events
- Manage meet entries, lineups, and performance tracking
- Promote academic accountability, positive conduct, and sportsmanship
- Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, and school staff
- Coordinate with assistant coaches and the athletic department to ensure smooth team operations
- Ensure full compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section III, and district regulations
- Maintain and manage team equipment and uniforms
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Completion or willingness to complete all NYSED coaching certification requirements, including:
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- DASA Training
- Concussion Management Certification
- SAVE Training
- Fingerprint clearance through NYSED
- Preferred:
- Experience coaching track and field at the school or club level
- Strong knowledge of training principles and event-specific techniques
- Ability to coach a variety of events or collaborate effectively with specialty assistants
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Commitment to student-athlete development on and off the track
