Summary
The BottleDrop Material Handler II (MH2) is responsible for delivering superior processing to all customers of BottleDrop Redemption Center in a safe and effective manner, while maintaining the appearance of the Redemption Center and surrounding area. The Material Handler II acts as the Person-in-Charge (PIC) if the Lead or Supervisor is offsite, and supports the Lead, Supervisor, and management to ensure a safe and positive work environment by assisting with oversight and staff training, and consistently demonstrating and following company policies as outlined in handbooks and training materials.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Adhere to all OBRC policies and any applicable OSHA safety policies, including but not limited to Personal Protective Equipment and Lock Out Tag Out.
- Support Processing Lead or BottleDrop Center Supervisor as Person–in–Charge (PIC) when Lead or Supervisor is offsite
- Clean and maintain work area and equipment to ensure a safe work environment
- Assist in oversight and training of Material Handlers
- Operate, troubleshoot, and help maintain all Back of House equipment
- Escalate repair/ IT issue when necessary
- Communicate with other departments within OBRC as needed
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs, stand for several hours a day and climb ladders
- Perform the functions of a Processing Lead as needed
- Perform the functions of a Material Handler or Customer Service Agent as needed
- Track and report daily activities of Redemption Center by using proper forms and procedures.
- Other job duties as assigned
Education/Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent education
- Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience required

- Demonstrated ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple projects, adhere to deadlines, handle frequent changes effectively and professionally, follow through on issues in a timely manner, and give excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to work multiple locations throughout the Portland Metro area
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate business needs
- Reliable transportation
Supervisory Responsibility
- This position may have some supervisory responsibilities as needed

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Work indoors and outdoors as needed in various temperatures/conditions.
- Exposure to industrial equipment with moving mechanical parts, vibration, sharp objects and cleaning products.
- Occasional exposure to odors of empty beverage containers.
- Noise levels in designated areas require the use of approved hearing protection.
- Must be able to frequently lift/carry up to 30lbs.
- Must be able to occasionally lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
- Push/pull 50+ lbs. frequently (wheeled bag racks).
- Talking and hearing is frequently required.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to stand and walk.
- Must be able to bend/stoop/crouch/squat.
- Must be able to use arms/wrists/hands/grasp.
- Must be able to occasionally climb and balance.

Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative is the industry steward of Oregon's bottle deposit and redemption system. Through our BotttleDrop Redemption Centers and partnerships with retailers, we collect nearly all the containers redeemed in Oregon, return deposits to consumers, and provide a high quality source of recycled raw materials for manufacturers.

We are a not-for-profit cooperative business made up of over 150 Oregon beverage distribution companies. Our workforce of more than 500 employees provides a fast, easy, and accountable system for recycling beverage containers. And, just as Tom McCall envisioned it more than 45 years ago, we deliver a cleaner, greener, Oregon at zero cost to taxpayers.

We are a growing company with a track record of innovation. In just the last year, we've added 14 more locations for people to return their empties, while also expanding capacity at our processing plants so that we can accommodate higher recycling rates and more container types with redemption value. We will continue to expand in the future with even more locations, new partnerships to help raise money for non-profit community groups, and new programs that will build on our leadership in container recycling.
