Job Description

The Borough Operations unit oversees efficient delivery of city services across the Bronx, manages constituent concerns, liaises with city agencies, and supports policy initiatives as directed by the Bronx Borough President. The unit also organizes community forums, town halls, and public meetings as needed.

The Borough Operations Coordinator will report to the Director of Borough Operations and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative, operational, and community engagement activities within the borough. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and dedicated to enhancing government responsiveness at the borough level.

Key Responsibilities:
- Borough Operations & Administration:
o Maintain a global strategy for service delivery in the Bronx.
o Support smooth coordination of municipal services in collaboration with borough offices.
o Assist the Director of Borough Operations in the coordination of and response to borough-wide emergencies including fires, building vacates, and other mass incidents impacting the quality of life in the Bronx.
o Prepare documentation and relevant materials for the application of city permits for office-sponsored events.

- Constituent Services & Community Engagement:
o Track constituent cases in the Civic Track case management system and ensure timely follow-ups with both city agencies and constituents.
o Track trends, analyze borough-specific data, and foster relationships with local stakeholders.
o Assist in preparing for Bronx Borough Service Cabinet and Borough Board meetings with Community Board leadership, city agencies, and elected offices.
o Respond to and resolve constituent inquiries, concerns, and service requests.
o Develop relationships with local stakeholders, including community boards, local precincts, community precinct councils, businesses, business improvement districts (BIDs), and civic organizations.
o Attend and represent the elected official at monthly precinct community council meetings, office-sponsored events, and other public events and meetings.
o Organize and participate in town halls, community forums, and public meetings.
o Weeknight and weekend coverage, including bodying responsibilities, as needed and assigned by leadership.
o Other responsibilities as assigned.

- Policy & Program Support:
o Assist in implementing policy initiatives, legislative priorities, and community programs.
o Conduct research on local issues affecting the borough and provide recommendations.
o Track and report on borough-specific data, trends, and government programs.
o Draft routine reports on borough-wide service trends and policy recommendations.

- Interagency Coordination:
o Serve as a liaison between the borough office and city, state, and federal agencies to ensure efficient borough-wide service delivery.
o Monitor and advocate for timely resolution of borough-wide issues.
o Coordinate on-site visits or conduct fieldwork as needed.

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
