Requirements

Mission of the role

To deliver accurate, timely, and compliant bookkeeping for a diverse portfolio of UK clients (VAT and non-VAT). Reporting to the Senior Accountant feeding into the Accounts Manager, this role ensures all financial records are consistently up-to-date, hitting critical deadlines while providing high-quality support to the wider accounting team.

Key outcomes in the first 6–12 months

• Outcome 1: Maintain Flawless Xero Records — Ensure all client transactions are fully recorded, allocated, and perfectly reconciled in Xero within target deadlines.
• Outcome 2: Build Client Relationships — Establish strong, trusting relationships with your client portfolio, ensuring smooth communication and the timely collection of required financial documents.
• Outcome 3: Support the Accounts Team — Seamlessly integrate with the UK team, reliably assisting the Senior Accountant and Accounting Manager to ensure all departmental targets and statutory deadlines are met.
• Outcome 4: Drive Bookkeeping Efficiency — Identify process bottlenecks and proactively implement smarter ways of working to increase efficiency and speed across your portfolio's bookkeeping workflows.

Must-have experience

• UK Tax & Compliance: Proven track record handling both VAT returns and non-VAT registered clients.
• Multi-Industry Exposure: Broad bookkeeping experience across a wide variety of business sectors.
• E-commerce Expertise: Specific, demonstrable experience managing the complexities of e-commerce bookkeeping (e.g., handling payment gateways, multi-channel sales, inventory).
• Language Proficiency: Exceptional, grammatically correct written and spoken English (essential for an overseas hire managing direct UK client communications).
• Software: Strong proficiency in Xero.

Must-have attributes

• Meticulous Attention to Detail: Spots errors instantly and takes pride in 100% accurate data entry and reconciliations.
• Highly Organized & Deadline-Driven: Capable of juggling multiple clients at once without letting turnaround times slip.
• Proactive & Self-Motivated: Because this is an overseas role, they must be a self-starter who doesn't need to be micro-managed to get the work done.
• Adaptable: Quick to learn and comfortable switching gears between completely different industries (e.g., jumping from an e-commerce client to a construction client).
• Clear Communicator: Confident enough to ask the right questions when information is missing, and polite but firm when chasing clients for paperwork.

• Excellent listener and clear communicator: We have a variety of nationalities and for many people, English isn't their first language. For you to excel, you'll need to be present in your calls and make sure you properly receive and thoughtfully send messages to others in the business.

The interview process

• TA Screening Call: A 30 minute call with our Talent Acquisition team
• Live Technical Assessment: A ~60–90 minute live skills test to assess your hands-on bookkeeping capability.
• Soft Skills Interview: A ~15-30 minute interview with the hiring team to evaluate real-world work scenarios against our core behavioural values.
• Reference Verification: Prior to final offer confirmation, we will conduct one professional reference check with your recent direct manager or supervisor. To keep the process moving smoothly, this step may be initiated during the final interview stages.
