Job Description

Location: SMEC Botswana Gaborone

REPORTS TO

Accounts Payable Supervisor or any other person appointed to supervise him/her from time to time.

PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE

To perform the function of a Bookkeeper by assisting the Accounts Payable Supervisor and other Finance Personnel in developing and contributing to an effective finance department by executing daily tasks with a strong attention to detail. This role will utilise strong analytical and bookkeeping knowledge, time management skills and effective problem solving to ensure success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Some accounting system maintenance (A/P vendor clean-up)

  • Banking payee clean-up

  • Creditors’ reconciliations preparation

  • Balance sheet reconciliations

  • Accounts payable, including reviewing invoices, following up with vendors and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner

  • Vendor maintenance in ERP (BST)

  • Filing and records retention

  • Assisting with monthly and year end tasks

  • Ad-hoc administrative support

  • Assist with special projects as required

  • Balance sheet reconciliation preparation

  • Some treasury functions

  • Ability to assist implementation of new procedures

  • Ability to draw up management reporting packs

  • Processing of invoices

  • Pay card reconciliations

  • Opening of projects and bid numbers

  • Training journals

  • Credit card reconciliations

  • Processing of daily deposits

  • Processing of debit order on bank account

  • Processing of journals

  • Travelex for all staff members – complete process

  • Control prepaid account and balance monthly

  • Cashbook processing

  • Recovery Africa (Epicor) billing and accruals done monthly

  • Processing EFT payments

  • Reconcile rentals for all regions

  • Bank recons for several accounts

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant tertiary qualification

  • 3-4 years relevant experience

  • Detail oriented with the ability to show initiative and take responsibility

  • Strong MS Excel and Word skills

  • Effective time management skills

  • Enhanced verbal and interpersonal communications skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
