Job Role: Bookkeeper

Compensation range: $1,500–$1,800 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: Our client is an Australian-owned business operating in the construction supply sector, providing specialised products, equipment and practical solutions used across concrete and related outdoor construction projects. The business works closely with contractors and industry professionals, with a focus on practical innovation, product reliability and solutions that improve efficiency on site.

Role Overview: We are looking for a genuinely top-level Bookkeeper with exceptional Xero skills and strong Shopify experience to manage day-to-day reconciliation work and maintain accurate financial records. This is a hands-on role for someone with outstanding attention to detail who can work independently and take ownership of their work.

We’re not looking for someone who simply processes transactions. The ideal candidate is commercially minded, understands what the numbers are telling them, can spot discrepancies or potential issues, and takes action rather than waiting to be told what to do. They should be confident questioning unusual transactions, investigating problems and finding practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Bookkeeping & Reconciliation

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and bank reconciliations in Xero, including Shopify transactions, payouts and related financial records.
• Manage the Shopify and Xero integration, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
• Handle general ledger allocations, balance sheet reconciliations and month-end reporting, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
• Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including supplier invoices, customer payments and outstanding balances.
• Maintain accurate records across multiple business entities, where applicable.
• Identify unusual transactions or potential issues, investigate them and take ownership of resolving them.
• Assist with GST and BAS-related tasks and ensure records are accurate and up to date.
• Use Excel for financial analysis, reconciliations and reporting as required.

Payroll Support

• Assist with payroll processing for factory and office staff, including timesheets, leave, superannuation, PAYG and STP.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and assist with resolving payroll discrepancies.

General Finance Support

• Assist with regular bookkeeping, financial reporting and other day-to-day finance tasks.
• Work closely with the Office Manager on financial matters and accounting requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve bookkeeping processes, accuracy and efficiency.

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Advanced Xero expertise (non-negotiable)
• Hands-on experience with Shopify and Xero integration
• Ideally 5+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience
• Proven experience supporting Australian businesses or clients
• Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
• Excellent problem-solving skills and initiative
• Experience managing multiple business entities
• Strong experience in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger management
• Experience with Australian GST (Goods and Services Tax), BAS (Business Activity Statements), and payroll
• Experience with month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

If a transaction looks unusual, they look into it. If they spot a potential problem, they address it before it becomes an issue for management.

Most importantly, this person should take genuine pride in accuracy, accountability, and getting the details right.
