Summary

Assist Corrections Deputies in an area where inmates are present and being processed in the Booking Unit. Receives, reviews, and ensures accurate completion of paperwork associated with an inmate being booked into jail. Works according to procedures and under general supervision.

Examples of duties

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Accurately enter and/or retrieve information from various computer systems and/or programs in a timely manner.
  • Communicate and gathers information from various agencies regarding inmates.
  • Performs routine computer-related duties including data entry and retrieval.
  • Create files and process paperwork for all incoming prisoners.
  • Process and review criminal history reports and warrants.
  • Control security doors via control panel to ensure safety of officers and inmates..
  • Prepare, review and search warrants to serve on inmates.
  • Checks alarms and emergency equipment in control room for proper operation to ensure optimal safety for staff, inmates and visitors.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as directed by Corrections Deputies.
  • Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.

Qualifications

  • Requires a valid High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) months data entry experience.
  • Prefers six months experience or training involving jail operations, detention, military or law enforcement.

Supplemental information

Work is completed in a Jail facility environment. Employees will have contact with inmates during the normal course of the work day.

Work is completed in twelve (12) hour shifts, with every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. Must have the ability to work either shift: 6:00 am - 6:00 pm OR 6:00 pm - 6:00 am.

Employees are subjected to extended work days and hours to meet operational needs or in the event of an emergency event.

Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph and criminal history review. Candidates must also pass a pre-employment drug screening. While employed, individuals will be subject to return-to-duty and post-accident drug screening.
