Job Description

This is a structured, multi-year development role designed to build a highly skilled technician pipeline and prepare the apprentice for a full-time technician position upon completion all while earning competitive wages during participating in the program. At the end of the program the successful candidate will acquire his/her Journeyman Card for the respective program.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-On Technical Training

  • Support piping layout, fabrication, and installation for boiler systems
  • Learn to install, thread, bend, and secure piping and tubing systems
  • Assist in mounting boiler components such as valves, gauges, burners, and accessories
  • Participate in re-tubing, insulation repair, and general boiler maintenance

Controls & Electrical Exposure

  • Assist in wiring motors, controls, and auxiliary equipment for boilers
  • Support building and testing control panels and fuel skids
  • Learn to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Assist with troubleshooting electrical and control systems
  • Observe and support combustion setup and system start-up activities

Mechatronics & System Learning

  • Develop foundational skills in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control systems
  • Assist in testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining integrated systems
  • Learn to use diagnostic tools and measurement equipment
  • Support system assembly, commissioning, and operational checks

Program & Development Activities

  • Participate in structured ICATT classroom training and coursework
  • Rotate through departments to gain exposure to shop and field operations
  • Maintain training logs, documentation, and required program materials
  • Follow all company safety policies and ICATT program requirements
  • Activities and job duties may change at the discretion of employer

Learning Progression (ICATT Model)

  • Year 1: Foundational skills, safety, and core mechanical/electrical basics
  • Year 2: Application of skills, increased hands-on responsibility
  • Year 3: Independent work, troubleshooting, and readiness for technician role

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Interest in mechanical, electrical, or technical trades
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to read basic technical drawings (preferred but not required)
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and industrial environments
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing

Working Conditions

  • Combination of shop and field environments
  • Exposure to industrial equipment, noise, and varying temperatures
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
