Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Paint Application:

  • Apply paint to trucks and other equipment while ensuring a smooth, even, and durable finish.
  • Perform touch-ups, corrections, and refinishing as needed to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Ensure completed work meets company quality and appearance expectations.

Paint Preparation:

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, masking, cleaning, and properly preparing all areas.
  • Mix and prepare paint according to required colors, specifications, and consistency.
  • Ensure all surfaces are properly prepared before paint application.

Sanding & Surface Preparation:

  • Sand and prepare trucks and equipment for painting, refinishing, and repairs.
  • Thoroughly remove dirt, grease, debris, and other contaminants from surfaces before painting.
  • Identify and address surface imperfections prior to applying paint.

Quality Control:

  • Inspect completed work for proper coverage, consistency, color match, and overall finish.
  • Identify and correct defects or imperfections in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship on every project.

Tools & Equipment:

  • Employees may be required to provide and maintain their own personal hand tools.
  • Larger tools, specialized equipment, and necessary shop equipment will be provided by the company.

Qualifications:

Transportation & Work Ethic:

  • Must have reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Experience & Industry Knowledge:

  • Previous experience in a body shop, truck repair, or painting environment is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and CSA regulations is highly desirable.
  • Willingness to learn company procedures, safety requirements, and industry standards.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to think ahead, identify potential issues, and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and quality.
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures consistently.

Work Requirements & Environment:

  • Must be willing and able to work in various weather conditions and outdoor elements when required.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Safely operate and care for tools and equipment used in the painting and preparation process.

Rate of Pay:

Compensation is based on experience, skill level, and demonstrated proficiency.

  • Level 1: $21–$23 per hour, including overtime
  • Level 2: $24–$26 per hour, including overtime
  • Level 3: $27–$29 per hour, including overtime

In 2019, Western Express was able to provide the opportunity for the Wise family to redeem most of their shares. They will maintain a minority shareholder position. The current management team now owns the majority interest.
