Conditions
Board membership runs for four years. The start date is to be agreed. The role is voluntary and unremunerated. Travel and accommodation for board meetings and official DRI representation are covered by DRI.
What would the role look like in practice?
Board members attend four meetings per year (usually three online meetings and one in-person meeting in Berlin), read monthly updates, and stay in regular contact with fellow board members. You'd draw on your networks and expertise to advise DRI's management and advance our mission. The time commitment averages around 2–4 hours per month. You're also welcome to join DRI events in your area of expertise or participate in field missions or public events.
What are we looking for?
We're particularly looking for someone with a background in communications, outreach, finances or fundraising — expertise that would complement existing board strengths in diplomacy, politics, management, media, and law. A genuine commitment to democracy and political pluralism is essential.
You should be fluent in English (other languages are a plus) and able to travel to Berlin once a year.
We value diversity and actively encourage applications from people whose background and perspective would complement those of our existing board and team.
Closing date for applications 04.062026. The position may be closed before the deadline has been reached, so early applications are encouraged.

Democracy Reporting International is a not-for-profit organisation based in Berlin, free of any political, religious, partisan, or national affiliation. We are both a think tank, seeking solutions to complex political transitions, and a project partner to national decision makers and citizens who want to drive change in their countries.
We focus on key policy areas where the state is accountable to its citizens: constitutions, elections, and parliaments. We work closely with civil society, which has a unique mandate to provide the nexus between the state and organised public interests. We target our analysis and support at key junctures in legislative and political processes, when we can make a difference.
Our vision is a world of informed citizens who use their power to elect governments, who are involved in politics, who insist that governments serve their interests, and who act in the defence of open, accountable, and representative democracy - a world of citizens, not subjects.
