The BMS Tester is a highly skilled technical role within the Data Center Testing and Commissioning organization. This position is responsible for performing advanced testing, verification, and pre‑commissioning of Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and Power Management Systems (PMS).
The role requires deep understanding of controls systems, communication protocols, integration logic, electrical and mechanical interfaces, and mission‑critical monitoring platforms. The BMS Tester coordinates testing workflows, ensures strict adherence to safety and quality standards, and collaborates closely with other commissioning departments such as electrical, mechanical, and networking teams.
Reports to Senior BMS tester supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
Controls Testing & Pre‑Commissioning
Perform advanced testing, verification, and functional checks of:
Conduct pre‑commissioning activities including:
Execute FATs, integration tests, and system functional verifications in accordance with engineering standards and customer requirements.
Review, interpret, and validate engineering drawings, P&IDs, control diagrams, network schematics, and test documentation.
Troubleshoot controls issues, support root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
Witness Testing & Customer Interface
Participate in customer witness tests for BMS, EPMS, and PMS systems.
Demonstrate system functionality, graphics performance, alarms, trending, load sequences, and integration results.
Provide clear, professional explanations of system behavior, testing results, and compliance evidence.
Documentation & Reporting
Ensure accurate documentation of all test results, deviations, corrective actions, and pre‑commissioning records.
Maintain traceability and version control across all test artifacts.
Verify accuracy of system graphics, naming conventions, point lists, and as‑built controls documentation.
Manage test equipment inventory and ensure calibration and reliability of tools used for controls verification.
Continuous Improvement
Provide structured feedback to improve controls test procedures, sequences, and commissioning workflows.
Identify opportunities to optimize testing efficiency, automation, and documentation standardization.
Support implementation of best practices across BMS/EPMS/PMS testing activities.
Mentor team members by sharing expertise in controls diagnostics and integration techniques (non‑supervisory development).
