About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Bitumen Trader to develop and manage our bitumen trading business in the Indian market.
The ideal candidate will have a strong network among bitumen importers, distributors, road contractors, infrastructure companies, asphalt manufacturers, EPC companies and government/tender-linked buyers across India.
The candidate will be responsible for the complete trading cycle — from market intelligence and supplier sourcing through pricing, negotiation, sales, logistics, documentation, delivery and payment collection.
The role requires a strong understanding of Indian bitumen demand, regional pricing, import economics, port logistics and customer credit risk.
Key Responsibilities
1. Trading & Business Development
- Develop and grow the company's bitumen trading business in India.
- Identify and develop new customers across major Indian markets and consumption centres.
- Build long-term relationships with importers, distributors, road contractors, asphalt producers, EPC companies and infrastructure companies.
- Generate regular buying and selling opportunities and convert them into profitable trades.
- Maintain an active pipeline of customers, suppliers and trading opportunities.
2. Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Identify reliable international and domestic sources of bitumen.
- Negotiate purchase prices, payment terms, specifications and delivery terms with suppliers.
- Develop relationships with refineries, producers, traders and international suppliers.
- Evaluate supplier reliability, product quality, availability and shipment schedules.
- Coordinate product inspection, quality certificates and technical documentation.
3. Indian Market Intelligence
- Monitor daily/weekly bitumen prices across major Indian markets and ports.
- Track domestic refinery prices, import offers, freight, duties/taxes, port costs and regional price differences.
- Monitor supply-demand conditions and seasonal demand.
- Track competitor activity and customer buying behaviour.
- Provide regular market reports and trading recommendations to management.
4. Sales & Customer Management
- Negotiate sales prices, quantities, payment terms and delivery schedules.
- Develop spot as well as contractual/offtake business.
- Understand customer requirements for grades such as VG-10, VG-20, VG-30 and VG-40 and other bituminous products where applicable.
- Manage customer quotations, orders and contracts.
- Develop business with large-volume consumers and distributors.
- Maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and procurement teams.
5. Import & Logistics Coordination
- Coordinate with suppliers, shipping lines, agents, ports, customs brokers, transporters and warehouses.
- Calculate and monitor landed cost from origin to Indian destination.
- Coordinate bulk and/or packed bitumen shipments.
- Monitor vessel schedules, discharge operations and inland transportation.
- Resolve operational issues affecting delivery, quality or cost.
Candidate Profile
Experience: 5–12 years in bitumen / petroleum products / asphalt / petrochemical trading or sales.
Must Have
- Proven experience in bitumen trading or sales into India.
- Existing network of Indian bitumen buyers and/or suppliers.
- Strong knowledge of Indian bitumen markets.
- Experience negotiating large-volume commodity transactions.
- Understanding of import economics and landed-cost calculations.
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
- Ability to independently originate and close trades.
- Strong understanding of payment terms and customer credit risk.
- Willingness to travel within India as required.
