The Facilities Technician 1 plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and operational efficiency of a multi-building industrial manufacturing site supporting Bird Johnson, a Fairbanks Morse Defense company specializing in propeller manufacturing in Pascagoula, Mississippi. This role is hands-on and mission-driven, helping ensure that the facility operates at the highest level to support critical defense manufacturing work.
Every task in this position matters, from routine maintenance and repairs to general facility upkeep. Every paper moved, wrench turned, and every light bulb replaced contributes directly to a larger mission: supporting the production of equipment that plays a vital role in national defense and maritime operations. The Facilities Technician supports senior maintenance staff and ensures that the facilities and equipment remain in optimal condition, contributing to a safe, efficient, and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct routine inspections and perform basic maintenance tasks across multiple buildings to
ensure the functionality and safety of all systems.
Assist in diagnosing and resolving issues related to HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and other building
systems with efficiency and accuracy.
Perform minor repairs, including but not limited to replacing filters, bulbs, and ceiling tiles, and
addressing minor plumbing issues.
Respond promptly to work orders and escalate complex issues to senior technicians or management
for resolution.
Maintain clean, organized, and safe maintenance areas, including tools and storage rooms.
Proactively monitor building conditions to identify potential safety concerns or equipment
malfunctions, reporting findings as necessary.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Fundamental knowledge of hand tools, safety protocols, and general building maintenance
practices.
A strong willingness to learn and develop skills in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical
systems through on-the-job training.
Proven ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and work effectively under supervision.
Basic computer proficiency for logging work orders and completing documentation.
Excellent communication skills, with a positive attitude and a commitment to teamwork and
collaboration.

Background Requirements
Successful completion of a standard background check and drug screen, in accordance with company policy.
A valid driver’s license is preferred.
Previous experience in maintenance or trade-related roles is advantageous but not required.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move across multiple buildings for extended periods.
Comfortable working at heights and safely climbing ladders.
Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
Flexibility to bend, kneel, stoop, or work in confined spaces as needed.
Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
