This position provides statistical analysis and programming support for projects within the University of Utah College of Social Work, Social Research Institute. These projects primarily include evaluating child welfare programs and processes designed to address or prevent child maltreatment and assessing caseworker training.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides rigorous statistical analysis, visualization, and statistical programming across multiple ongoing projects, including the completion of descriptive and inferential analyses and the interpretation of results
  2. Conducts regression modeling, multilevel data analysis, longitudinal analysis, pre-post analysis, propensity score matching, and other related methodologies.
  3. Reviews data for discrepancies, interacts with data managers, creates analysis datasets, and performs complex data preprocessing tasks
  4. Presents interim and final results to a broad audience of administrative and community stakeholders, and provides a written description of methods and statistical analyses used for presentation, reporting, and publication purposes
  5. Conforms to statistical programming and analysis standards
  6. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the Biostatistician I
  7. Demonstrates proficiency in the R statistical programming language
  8. Assists in the preparation and submission of abstracts and manuscripts
  9. Communicates with study investigators and other key personnel regarding statistical issues, including analysis plans and interpretation of study data

Employees in this position work on multiple tasks simultaneously and, as such, may have competing deadlines or time constraints that may require consultation with their supervisor to prioritize responsibilities. Employees may encounter concerns about study design, statistical, or data issues in a project they are working on. Level II Biostatisticians work independently to understand the issues and thoughtfully research any potential solutions. Employees may discuss these issues and concerns with a supervising statistician or principal investigator on the project. Employees must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment depending on the task and project.

Employees are expected to actively expand their knowledge and understanding of statistical methods and programming so that they have more tools available to independently complete the assigned tasks. If at any time the employee feels that a particular request or task reaches beyond their own understanding or expertise, they should work closely with a supervising statistician or principal investigator to ensure that the work provided is of the highest quality.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a solid knowledge of standard statistical analysis procedures with a minimum of an MS degree in statistics, biostatistics, a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), and demonstrated knowledge of at least one statistical programming language such as SAS or R. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). An ability to work on several projects simultaneously and manage deadlines, and excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain statistical techniques and present data results.
