About the opportunity
Join the Save Sight Institute as a Biostatistician and contribute to research that is advancing the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of eye disease on a national and global scale. Working within a highly collaborative academic and clinical research environment, you will apply your expertise in biostatistics and research methodology to design, deliver, and translate high-impact research across ophthalmology, vision science, and broader health research programs.
Reporting under broad direction, you will contribute as a subject matter expert, providing specialist statistical advice, leading complex analyses, supporting grant development, and driving high-quality research outputs. Your key responsibilities will be to:
Conduct high-quality independent and collaborative analyses of observational data, delivering impactful outputs through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and other scholarly activities.
Develop and apply advanced statistical methodologies to support ophthalmic, vision, and broader health research, contributing to translational research outcomes with real-world impact.
Build and maintain productive research collaborations across academic, clinical, industry, and external stakeholder networks to strengthen research capability and innovation.
Contribute to the development of competitive grant applications and research funding opportunities to support strategic research growth and impact.
Provide academic guidance and informal mentoring to emerging researchers, including supervision of postgraduate students and support of collaborative research projects.
Contribute to faculty and institute operations through administrative activities, committee participation, and fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing research culture.
Act as publications officer to support the scientific and operational delivery of research outputs arising from the program. The role coordinates multicentre publication activities and tracks and manages manuscript workflows and assists in translating real-world clinical data into high-quality peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
About you
PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or related quantitative discipline, with experience in biomedical, clinical, or real-world observational research.
Demonstrated experience conducting original research, with an emerging track record of scholarly outputs and a developing research profile in biostatistics or a related discipline.
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex statistical concepts for academic, clinical, and non-technical audiences.
Proven ability to build productive relationships and develop collaborative networks across academic, industry, and professional stakeholder groups.
Excellent planning, organisational, and administrative skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.
Experience supervising, mentoring, or supporting students, researchers, or colleagues, alongside a strong commitment to collaboration and service excellence.
