Job Description

Performs accurate and timely processing, testing, and resulting for the Biopathology Center. Provides preventive maintenance, quality control, and customer service.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs routine and complex technical procedures and functions in the laboratory information system in an adequate and timely manner, including processing, reporting, tracking, inventory management, and long-term storage in accordance with biorepository protocols and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, supply upkeep, and quality control with appropriate documentation, coordination, and communication.
  • Remains up to date on relevant laboratory and biorepository operation techniques, procedures, and protocols, reviewing, acknowledging, and adhering to standard operating procedures as required.
  • Addresses issues related to specimen integrity, data accuracy, or workflow processes, identifying and recommending appropriate resolutions. Maintains efficiency while managing interruptions, competing priorities, and evolving operational needs within a dynamic biorepository environment.
  • Maintains a safe environment, ensuring appropriate personal protective equipment and reporting spills and hazardous situations. Ensures proper handling, labeling, storage, and confidentiality of patient- and research-related materials in accordance with privacy and data protection standards.
  • Assists in process development and improvement within the department. Participates in workflow optimization, quality assurance, continuing education programs, department meetings, and special projects to support operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborates across multidisciplinary teams, including clinical, research, and operational stakeholders, ensuring effective communication. Assists with individual and team improvement and supports onboarding, training, and competency development.

Education Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science or medical technology from accredited institution OR equivalent education and training as defined in the Code of Federal Regulations 42CFR493.1489(b)(3)(ii).

Certifications:

American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification, preferred.

  • Ability to maintain and foster interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Initiative and ability to provide useful feedback.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills.
