BIOMEDICAL ENGINEER TECHNICIAN

Under the supervision of the Clinical Engineering Manager, performs preventive maintenance, calibration,

equipment repair, troubleshooting, and safety inspections of biomedical equipment as a generalist. Provides basic repair and maintenance on wide range of medical equipment. This is an entry level position with no supervisory

responsibility.

Essential Job Duties

  • Diagnoses and isolates medical electronic systems problems to the subsystem, module and functional unit.
  • Provides device repair including but not limited to external device troubleshooting, configuration & settings, power supply, and/or module level.
  • Uses technical ability to perform corrective action or escalate issues to manager and higher skilled technicians as appropriate.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs medical instrumentation.
  • Identifies physical connections for network connectivity and device interfaces.
  • Performs electrical safety, functional testing, physical inspection, and scheduled parts replacement for the
  • appropriate preventive maintenance on medical equipment in accordance to the OEM’s (original equipment
  • manufacturers) recommendations and/or department policy.
  • Documentation / CMMS (computerized maintenance management system)
  • Documents all equipment related work in Department’s Equipment Maintenance Database, accurately and in real time.
  • Maintains all required records (paper or electronic) including maintaining records in Biomed and other hospital systems (ie. St.Croix , Mobilview, CareEverywhere, etc.), as required.
  • Performs incoming inspection and installation of medical equipment as assigned by the Clinical Engineering Manager.
  • Uses Knowledge of the operations of patient medical equipment commonly used throughout the hospital and instructs clinical personnel in the proper usage and application of medical equipment.
  • Attends and participates in all department meetings, huddles, trainings, and in-services including factory based training for hospital owned devices.
  • Stays current with knowledge of patient related equipment commonly used throughout the hospital.
  • Orders necessary parts and supplies needed for equipment maintenance.
  • Coordinates repairs with internal departments and/or external service providers, as required.
  • Escalates issues including system-wide issues, to the manager, on-call manager, and other internal and external team members as appropriate.
  • May be called upon to provide technical information regarding device service history, common failures experienced, ease of serviceability, or vendor service experience.
  • No supervisory responsibilities, may receive technical advice and direction from other team members.
  • Uses department supplied tools, test equipment, supplies, and communication devices for conducting hospital business as per policy.

Full time, Day shift role reporting onsite to NYP/Columbia.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 0 years of experience with an Associate’s/Bachelor’s Degree OR 2+ years of experience with no college degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

Salary Range:

$41.65/Hourly
