Job Description
The Biology Student Laboratory Assistant supports the daily operation of instructional biology laboratories in the School of STEM by preparing and maintaining laboratory materials, equipment, and workspaces. This position requires the ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently, and assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient learning environment for biology students and faculty.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Set up and clean up biology lab exercises
- Wash and put away glassware
- Do routine lab housekeeping
- Prepare solutions and media
- Do regular inventory of student drawers and lab chemicals
- Sterilize biohazardous waste using autoclave
- Water plants
- Test eyewashes
- Receive and unpack packages
Estimated employment dates October 1, 2026 – June 11, 2027
Approximate hours per week: 10-19
Qualifications
- A current UW Bothell undergraduate student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits per quarter.
- Completion of the general chemistry laboratory series (BCHEM 144, 154, and 164).
- Completion of at least one quarter of the introductory biology series (BBIO 180, 200, and 220).
- Ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently.
Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs
- Ability to work on your feet for extended periods of time
- Completion of necessary trainings
- Enrollment in a minimum of 6 credits per quarter
- Student hourly employees are limited to working 19.5 hours per workweek during a quarter in which the student is enrolled but may work more than 19.5 hours per workweek during school breaks or when “on leave”
- All new student employees must also complete UW's online Title IX course about preventing and responding to sex-and gender-based violence and harassment.

- Students cannot begin work until the hiring process is complete The working start date will be listed on the appointment letter once the student is cleared for work.
