Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking to hire a full-time Bioinformatics Programmer 2 to join the Neuromodulation Division. You will support innovative research initiatives at the intersection of neuroscience, data science, artificial intelligence, and computational research. You will collaborate with investigators and research teams to develop, analyze, and optimize computational tools, datasets, and research technologies. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop, test, and support computational and data science tools for research projects
  • Analyze large datasets using statistical and data analytics techniques
  • Clean, manage, and prepare research data (including electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)) for analysis
  • Assist with algorithm development, optimization, and software implementation
  • Support research involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing technologies
  • Collaborate with investigators and multidisciplinary research teams on study design, data analysis, and technology solutions
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot research software, computational workflows, and data systems
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of research applications and tools
Salary range: $39.48/hr - $82.27/hr


Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science statistics, computational biology, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 2 years of experience in computational science, data science, research computing, data management, or a related technical field
Experience working with large or complex datasets in research, healthcare, or academic setting (preferred)
Experience supporting the development, implementation, deployment, or maintenance of computational, data science applications and tools, including signal processing in EEG and MRI
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, and improve computational workflows and data processes
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, including researchers, faculty, administrators, and leadership
Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Python, R, MATLAB, or similar analytical tools (preferred)
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet established deadlines in a fast-paced research environment
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
