Job Description

The Senior Ethicist role contributes to the mission and vision of FMOLHS by leading a regional approach to Ethics Services across assigned markets, including ethics education and consultation coverage assigned hospitals, ambulatory care sites, clinic sites, ministries, and behavioral health services. Collaborates with Vice President of Ethics and Theology, SVP Mission, and senior and high-level leaders throughout the health system on a routine basis to support a wide range of initiatives in the delivery of Catholic healthcare to all the communities served.

StrategyAlignment

Ensuresimplementation of strategiesalignedwith bestpracticestandardsforCatholicHealthEthics andclinicalandorganizationalethics;

Leadsmultipleethicscommittees;

Leadsinitiatives for complianceandregulatory standardsrelatedtoethicsandpatientrights; Supports increasing complexity of ethics services, including consultation demand, partnerships, and regulatory requirements across assigned regions.

Engageswithinternalandexternalleaders, providers,managers,patients,andcommunity members

Responsible for planning,implementing,and maintainingprocessesforclinicalethics consultation,organizationalethicsdeliberationand discernment,ethicseducationandethics-related-policydevelopmentandoutcomesforassigned regions

WorksdirectlywiththeVice President of Ethics and Theologyto ensurethatallserviceswithinassigned regions are aligned with the Ethical and Religious DirectivesforCatholicHealthCareServicesand nationalstandardsforclinicalandCatholic healthcare ethics

Supportsnationalethicsinitiatives as appropriate for FMOLHS

  1. Collaboration

Providessupportandcollaboration withcontracted ethicsproviders;educational and consultation supporttograduatemedicaleducation;andon-boardingofnewprovidersasrequested

Meetswiththelocalordinaryregularlyineach regionincollaborationwiththelocalmissionleader

and VP of Ethics and Theology and SVPofmissiontobuildandstrengthenthe relationships,oraddressconcernswhichmayarise, betweenthelocaldioceseandhealthministry

3yearsexperienceinAcademicMedicalCenter includingaworkingknowledgeoftheEthical& Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services andtheTeachingoftheRomanCatholicChurch Doctor of Philosophyorrelatedfieldpreferred
