Suburban Water Systems is seeking a Billing Analyst I. The Billing Analyst I is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely utility billing for assigned districts. This role supports day-to-day billing operations by researching and resolving billing issues, processing adjustments, and coordinating with internal partners to maintain compliance with approved rates, tariffs, and ordinances.

Work Location and Schedule

  • This position will be primarily based at our office in La Mirada, California.
  • This role will also require local travel to other locations within our service areas in Los Angeles County.
  • Full-Time regular business hours Monday through Friday: 7:30am-5pm and every other Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

What You'll Do

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure accurate and timely utility billing for assigned districts, including cycle and off-cycle billing activities.
  • Review, research, and resolve billing exceptions, estimated accounts, and discrepancies in compliance with approved rates, tariffs, and ordinances.
  • Process billing adjustments, cancel/rebills, corrections, and miscellaneous charges as required.
  • Coordinate with IT, field operations, and customer care teams to resolve billing issues and improve processes.
  • Initiate and track billing-related service orders and field activities.
  • Participate in special projects and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Bring

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of utility billing processes, bookkeeping, or general accounting principles
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word)
  • Ability to research and resolve billing discrepancies with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to interpret rates, tariffs, ordinances, and billing documentation
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional coordination
  • Ability to learn and use enterprise systems such as SAP or other ERP/CIS platforms

Education and Certifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Work Experience:

1+ years of related experience in billing, accounting, bookkeeping, or utility operations

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
