Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Senior Auto Claims Specialist to manage and resolve complex and high-severity commercial auto claims while delivering an outstanding customer experience and supporting effective claims cost management.
Reporting to the Sr. Claims Manager, Property & Motor you will handle a portfolio of complex and/or litigated auto claims from coverage analysis through to resolution, while providing technical guidance to colleagues, collaborating closely with underwriting and risk engineering, and contributing to continuous improvement in claims handling practices and customer service.

Zurich follows a hybrid work model requiring three days per week of in-person presence, which may include time in the office or market-facing engagements.
• Handle a portfolio of complex and/or high-severity commercial auto claims (including bodily injury, property damage, and potential litigation) from first notice of loss through to final resolution.
• Conduct detailed coverage analysis, liability assessment, and damage evaluation in accordance with Zurich’s claims policies, guidelines, and service standards.
• Manage claims reserves, ensuring timely and accurate reserving and adherence to financial and regulatory requirements.
• Lead negotiation and settlement discussions with insureds, brokers, third-party claimants, and legal counsel to achieve fair and efficient outcomes.
• Work closely with internal and external legal counsel, independent adjusters, and other service providers, providing oversight and direction to ensure quality and cost-effective claims handling.
• Provide technical support, coaching, and mentorship to junior claim handlers, sharing best practices and contributing to team capability building.
• Collaborate with underwriting, risk engineering, and other internal stakeholders to share insights, support account reviews, and help drive profitable portfolio management.
• Identify trends, potential fraud indicators, and opportunities for process improvement, and contribute to claims initiatives and projects as required.
• Ensure all claims activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and Zurich’s internal policies and controls.
• Deliver a high level of customer service, maintaining clear, timely, and empathetic communication with all stakeholders throughout the claims process.
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area
OR
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in Claims or Insurance area
OR
• Completion of Zurich Claims Training Program and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area
OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Claims or Insurance area
AND
• Must obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s)
• Knowledge of insurance regulations, markets and products
• Microsoft Office experience
Preferred:
• Minimum of 3 years previous commercial auto claims handling experience
• Commercial Insurance - AMF licence
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
• Professional designations such as CIP/FCIP (or progress toward) are considered a strong asset.
• Fluency in French language
• Fluency in both spoken and written English is required to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders outside Quebec.
