This position is apt for candidates who have completed their medical assistant training, gained hands-on clinical experience, and obtained certification in intravenous (IV) access. You will play a vital role in supporting clinical operations, providing exceptional patient care, and performing advanced procedures such as IV insertion as ordered by the licensed Independent Provider (LIP). Your expertise will enhance the quality of care and services offered to our patients.

Clinical Duties

  • Assist in preparing patients for examinations and procedures by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and providing comfort and reassurance.
  • Support healthcare providers during patient exams by preparing exam rooms, organizing instruments, and ensuring that all necessary supplies are available.
  • Perform independent clinical tasks such as drawing blood, administering injections, vaccines and assisting with minor procedures as ordered by the (LIP).
  • Performs venipunctures or capillary punctures to draw blood samples for testing as ordered by the (LIP).
  • Follow proper procedures for labeling, handling, and transporting specimens to ensure accuracy, prevent contamination.
  • Administration of oral, topical, sublingual, or injectable medications as ordered by the (LIP) except for intravenous medications.
  • Clean, dress, and bandage superficial wounds as ordered by the (LIP).
  • Conduct simple in-house CLIA waived tests, as ordered by the (LIP).
  • Perform and document regular quality control tests to ensure the accuracy of lab results and the proper functioning of lab equipment.
  • Practice and maintain aseptic techniques during clinical procedures to prevent infections.
  • Clean and disinfect exam rooms, equipment, and surfaces following each patient encounter and policy.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and equipment using autoclaves or other sterilization methods.
  • Use appropriate PPE (gloves, masks, gowns) to prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs)
  • Ensure that biohazardous waste is collected and removed according to organizational procedures.
  • Provide patients with clear instructions regarding post-visit care, medication use, and follow-up appointments.
  • Demonstrating age-specific competencies to provide safe, effective, and personalized care. Have the ability to understand and address the physical, emotional, developmental, and social needs of each age group to ensure high-quality care:
  • Newborn (0 to 1)
  • Toddler (1 to 3)
  • Preschool (3 to 5)
  • School age (6 to 12)
  • Adolescent (13 to 18)
  • Adult (19 to 65)
  • Elderly (over 65)
  • Performed independent clinical procedures such as electrocardiogram (ECG), Ear Lavage, Ear Suction, Suture Removal, Diabetic Retinal Examination (DRE), Tuberculosis Skin Test and Reading, Vision Exam with Snellen Chart and/or Digital Camera as ordered by the (LIP).
  • Respond to medical emergencies, provide basic first aid, and assist in stabilizing patients
  • Provides care with cultural awareness and sensitivity.

Advanced Clinical Task

  • IV Access and Infusion:
  • Perform IV insertions, monitor IV sites, and administer IV fluids as ordered by the (LIP)

Pediatric Intake and Procedures

  • Accurately measure and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, blood pressure, etc.
  • Measure and record growth parameters including weight, height, and head circumference for infants.
  • Assist pediatricians during examinations and routine procedures such as vision acuity examination using digital cameras as ordered by the (LIP)
  • Prepare examination rooms and set up necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Draw blood and collect specimen samples (e.g., urine, throat swabs) for laboratory testing as ordered by the (LIP).
  • Administer vaccines according to the recommended pediatric immunization schedule and as ordered by the (LIP)
  • Use age specific techniques (e.g. Age-Appropriate Communication; Comparing a blood pressure cuff to a “hug, comfort positions; swaddling for infants, distraction technique; counting, blowing bubbles, or playing with a favorite toy) to minimize discomfort and anxiety during specimen collection.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, provide basic first aid, and assist in stabilizing pediatric patients.
  • Ensure readiness of emergency equipment and supplies in the pediatric setting.

Administrative Duties

  • Support the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date patient records by entering data, filing documents, and managing electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Perform general office tasks such as answering phones, handling, and managing inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with billing, coding, and insurance claims processing under the guidance of experienced staff.
  • Perform Pre-Visit Planning to gather information need it prior patient visit
  • Responses to telephone encounter and actions in a timely manner
  • Urgent Care Patient Follow-Up Documentation and Calls
  • Communicable Disease Reporting
  • Hospital transfer documentation and reporting
  • Responds to telephone/action encounters in a timely manner.

  • Medical Records request
  • Coordinate care by facilitating Pre-op Clearance, medication authorization request, and referrals.
  • Adhere to all healthcare policies, procedures, and safety protocols.



Qualifications

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.



Required Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a medical assistant training program.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant Certification from Sanitas MA Apprenticeship Program.

Required Experience

  • Two (2) to three (3) years experience in the healthcare field.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
  • Active IV Access Certification from a recognized program.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - From American Heart Association (AHA).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in performing IV insertions, phlebotomy, and other clinical procedures.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, clinical protocols, and healthcare regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  • Competence in using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and other office software.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused, with a high level of attention to detail.

Preferred

Qualifications

  • Experience in electronic medical records systems (eCW preferred), Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience working in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification is preferred.
  • Experience in Pediatric care and be knowledgeable of pediatric terminology and preferred experience in administering care to pediatric patients.
