Position: Full-Time Bilingual/English Learner (EL) Instructor

Galapagos Rockford Charter School is seeking a highly motivated, bilingual Bilingual/English Learner (EL) Instructor to support scholars in grades K–8 who are developing English language proficiency.
The ideal candidate is an educator who believes that all scholars can achieve at the highest levels and is committed to providing rigorous, individualized, data-driven instruction. This position will work across the K–8 school community to identify and address the academic and language-development needs of English Learner scholars while helping them become confident, successful, and independent learners.
The Bilingual/EL Instructor will collaborate closely with classroom instructors, school leadership, families, and other support staff to ensure that EL scholars have equitable access to the full Galapagos curriculum and are making measurable academic and language-development progress.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct, small-group, and/or individualized instruction to scholars identified as English Learners.
- Support scholars in developing academic English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and comprehension.
- Provide language-development support within core academic content areas.
- Use assessment data and scholar performance information to identify individual learning needs and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Develop and implement targeted instructional plans aligned with scholars' English language proficiency and academic needs.
- Collaborate with classroom instructors to ensure EL scholars receive appropriate supports, accommodations, and differentiated instruction.
- Monitor scholar progress and maintain accurate documentation of academic and language-development growth.
- Support the implementation of English Learner programming and services in accordance with applicable state and federal requirements.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding scholar progress, goals, and areas for continued growth.
- Participate in professional development, instructional coaching, team meetings, and school-wide initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with scholars and create a classroom environment that promotes confidence, belonging, academic achievement, and a growth mindset.
- Support Galapagos' mission, culture, and high academic expectations for all scholars.
- Perform other instructional and school-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
- Valid Illinois teaching licensure appropriate for the position, with a bilingual and/or English Learner endorsement preferred/required based on the candidate's assigned responsibilities.
- Strong commitment to scholar achievement and growth.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with classroom instructors, school leadership, families, and support staff.
- Ability to use data to inform instruction and make instructional decisions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
