Based in Southland, this role is all about helping us win the work that keeps local communities moving and growing. We’re looking for someone who can help shape. co-ordinate and write clear, high-quality submissions across a broad mix of opportunities - including Three Waters, Civil Construction, Resurfacing and Roading Maintenance Contracts.

This role can suit someone who is already an experienced Bid Manager, or someone who brings a solid writing foundation and a background in the construction industry and is ready to grow into the role. If you understand how the work gets done, can write clearly and confidently, and want to build your career in work winning, we’ll back you to develop.

You don’t need to be a career Bid Manager to be successful in this role. You might come from a project coordination, engineering, commercial, operations or tendering background. What matters most is that you can write clearly, organise information, work well with people, and bring structure to a deadline-driven process.

This role could suit someone already experienced in bids and tenders, or someone with strong writing, coordination and industry understanding who is ready to grow into a more specialised work-winning role.

You’ll bring structure, clear thinking and strong writing to the process, while working closely with operational teams and subject matter experts to make sure every submission is practical, competitive and grounded in how the work will actually be delivered.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end tender and bid process for opportunities across Southland and the wider business.

  • Prepare, write and coordinate high quality submissions across Three Waters, Civil Construction Resurfacing and Roading Maintenance Opportunities.

  • Work with operational, commercial and technical teams to develop clear bid strategies and strong customer-focused responses.

  • Gather insights early, help shape tender positioning and support bid/no-bid decision making.

  • Translate operational knowledge into practical methodologies, staging plans and delivery approaches.

  • Coordinate input from estimating, engineering, HSEQ, commercial and other key stakeholders.

  • Ensure submissions are clear, compliant, well-presented and aligned to customer requirements.

  • Identify risks, opportunities and key differentiators early in the tender process.

  • Help build consistent, high quality tender content, tools and ways of working across the region.

  • Support a collaborative, low ego approach where ideas matter and good work gets done together.

  • Experience in bid management, tender writing or submission coordination, ideally within infrastructure, construction, utilities or maintenance environments.

  • Strong writing skills and the ability to turn technical and operational information into clear, compelling content.

  • A good understanding of infrastructure delivery, ideally across one or more of Three Waters, Civil Construction Resurfacing and Roading Maintenance Opportunities or a willingness to learn

  • The ability to work across a wide variety of opportunities and manage competing deadlines.

  • Strong relationship building skills and confidence working with operational and technical teams.

  • A practical, organised and delivery-focused approach.

  • Some commercial awareness and an understanding of tender requirements and procurement processes.

  • A collaborative style, with the confidence to ask good questions, challenge assumptions and keep work moving.

  • Civil infrastructure or contracting experience would be highly valued.

  • Relevant qualification or experience in engineering, construction, communications, business or a related field would be an advantage.
