At UGL, our Utilities business is at the forefront of Australia’s energy transition, delivering essential design and construction services for critical infrastructure across the power sector. We provide end-to-end solutions on major projects including transmission lines, switchyards, substations, and electrical distribution networks.

Our expertise spans the full project lifecycle—design, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance. Whether through self-performed work, collaboration with subcontractors, or joint ventures, our teams deliver projects safely and effectively across Australia. Our capabilities cover everything from engineering and structural works to civil, electrical installation, and commissioning.

To date, we’ve successfully delivered over 7,300 km of transmission lines and completed more than 300 substation projects—and we’re just getting started!

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Bid Manager to join the pre-contracts team where you will work on projects within the power and water infrastructure sectors. In this role, you will be responsible for proactively managing and submitting high-quality proposals for our major project utilities tenders.

What will a day in this role look like:

·Accountability for successfully strategising, bidding and winning new business opportunities in support of the utilities strategic plan. This includes tendering, off-market proposals and expansions including leading the preparation, review and final submission

·Collaborating with UGL’s operational and functional teams, and strategically leading a tender team to identify opportunities, lead and manage tender and proposal submissions, and ensure business positioning, governance, win themes, risk management and resource loading is consistent and best in class.

·Conduct risk assessment and management activities to evaluate all commercial, financial, legislative and resource risk associated with the tender.

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.

What are we looking for you to bring to the team:

This role suits a self-motivated, committed leader who is enthusiastic and ambitious in setting and completing key targets. Prior qualifications, experience and skills in the following are key to your success:

·Formal qualifications in engineering, business or project management with experience in tendering, business development, procurement, estimating, risk and project controls

·Strong knowledge of power, water and the energy sectors or the proven ability to rapidly learn new sectors

·Exceptional influencing and communication skills including demonstrated proposal writing expertise, facilitation and presentations

·Acute awareness of market influences and how to strategically respond when tendering, which includes macro-economic, social and geopolitical risk
