Patient Care Technician (PCT) – Float Pool | Western Massachusetts | Baystate Health 

Full-Time & Part-Time | Day & Night Shifts 

Position Overview 

Baystate Health is launching the Baystate Health Staffing Optimization Team (BHSOT), a new Patient Care Technician (PCT) float pool designed to provide experienced patient care and behavioral health support staff with greater flexibility while helping meet patient care and staffing needs across Western Massachusetts.

As a Baystate Health Float Pool PCT, you will be hired into either a Facility Float or System-Wide Float position. Both opportunities offer variety, flexibility, and the opportunity to work across designated patient care and behavioral health areas based on your experience and assigned clinical grouping.

• Facility Float PCT
• Provide direct patient care across designated clinical areas within a specific Baystate Health facility.
• Facility Float PCTs must be able to work in all areas included within their assigned clinical grouping.
• System-Wide Float BRT
• Provide direct patient care across designated clinical areas at multiple Baystate Health facilities.

System-Wide Float PCTs must be able to work in all areas included within their assigned clinical grouping.

• Compensation differentials vary by float assignment and applicable position or clinical grouping.

Responsibilities  

As a Baystate Health Float Pool Patient Care Technician, you will:

• Provided safe, age-appropriate patient care, assisting with activities of daily living, mobility, elimination, and personal care while promoting patient dignity and safety.
• Monitored and accurately documented vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other physiological parameters; promptly reported significant changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
• Assisted with treatments, procedures, dressing changes, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and physician examinations in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Provided one-to-one patient observation as needed, recognized changes in patient condition or safety concerns, and responded appropriately to emergency situations.
• Collaborated effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members while maintaining clear communication, accurate documentation, and patient-centered care.

Specific shift lengths, schedules, and clinical assignments vary by position and assigned clinical grouping.

Locations & Clinical Areas

Baystate Health Float Pool PCTs support designated patient care areas throughout Western Massachusetts. Depending on your position, you may work within one Baystate Health facility or across multiple Baystate Health facilities.

Designated areas may include:

• Emergency Department
• Medical/Surgical
• Pediatric and Adolescent Services
• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
• Other designated patient care area

BHSOT positions are structured around defined assignments or clinical groupings. PCTs must be able to work in all areas included within their assigned grouping.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal Float Pool PCT is an experienced clinical support professional who is experienced with direct patient care and who can adapt to different care environments.

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Relevant clinical or patient care experience consistent- At least 24 months.
• Ability to work in all areas included within the assigned clinical grouping.
• CPR through the American Heart Association BLS Provider certification required prior to start.

Relevant experience may include, but is not limited to:

• Direct patient care
• Working with patients in a hospital setting/group home setting/skilled nursing facility
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) experience
• Medical Assistant (MA) experience
• Home Health Aide (HHA) experience
• Patient Care Assistant (PCA) experience

Compensation & Benefits

Full-Time and Part-Time positions are benefit-eligible based on the applicable FTE and position.

Behavioral Resource Technicians receive applicable compensation differentials based on their Facility Float or System-Wide Float assignment and applicable shift or clinical grouping. Additional premium pay programs may apply when eligibility requirements are met.

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

$17.98 - $20.68 - $24.12
