JOB TITLE: Benefits Trainer
JOB TYPE: FLSA Exempt
REPORTS TO: L&D Training Director
SUMMARY:
The Benefits Trainer is responsible for overall training and mentoring of Benefits department colleagues in multiple roles across the SW Region. Training responsibilities may include orientation activities, subject matter training, industry training, product/service training, strategic & operational training, process training, systems training, special projects, support of MMA University, ongoing coaching and mentoring, development of new training programs, and other duties as assigned by the MMA SW Benefits Practice Leader. The Benefits Trainer will deliver training programs in live and/or virtual classroom environments. Training responsibilities will require some, but not extensive, travel to multiple locations, including Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth, Midland, Houston, Lubbock and Abilene.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
60-75% Conduct ongoing training of department staff. This includes but is not limited to:
- Deliver complex technical training programs both live and via virtual classroom technology, including training on MMA systems and processes.
- Deliver orientation activities, subject matter training, industry training, product/service training, strategic & operational training, process training, systems training, special projects, support for MMA University, ongoing coaching and mentoring, development of new training programs, and other duties
- Conduct needs assessments to identify learning objectives. Develop training content to meet the needs of existing employees and/or to improve upon the quality of the existing content.
- Identify appropriate training media and methods based on learning styles and nature of training being delivered, audience location, etc. Training methods may include group lecture, self-study, on-the-job training, ongoing individual mentoring/coaching, follow-up training, and computer based training.
- Consult with management to identify training needs and to ensure course content and training materials meet those needs. Conduct training program assessments to identify gaps between learning objectives and outcomes. Evaluate effectiveness of courses and make recommendations for improvements.
- Training Administration to include communications, scheduling, roster management, materials production, facilities coordination. Answer participant questions related to training.
- Special Projects
25-40% Conduct Process management and workflow management. This includes but is not limited to:
- Responsible for Curriculum development, course content development and employee testing/evaluations.
- Individual will become and/or maintain a position of subject matter expert as appropriate based on prior experience or developed technical expertise.
- Responsible for creation, maintenance and upkeep of training reference materials (hard copy and electronic as appropriate) so as to be current and available to office staff for day to day procedural references
- Manage 3rd party vendor relationships to provide training on new products and resources. ..ie Lunch and Learn Events, CEBS designations …etc.
- Consult with Compliance Department to facilitate and design Compliance related training and Continuing Education.
- Key participant in the Agencies Best Practices Self Audit Process…….
- Conduct new hire training, including phone, email, timesheet and other general systems and processes.
- Support of MMA University initiative and MMA U development.
- Provide support for Internship Program
- Special Projects
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years’ experience in the Employee benefits industry with a carrier or broker, preferred.
- Working knowledge of instructional design principles and concepts
- Ability to travel to remote offices located within Texas
- Expert knowledge on insurance benefits, including Medical (both self -funded and fully insured), dental, vision, STD, LTD, Rx, Wellness, and Life and familiar with voluntary products
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to engage audiences in learning topics and to quickly and effectively respond to audience needs.
- Expert Knowledge of Microsoft Products including but not limited to Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint 2010.
- Familiarity and expertise with HR & Benefits Technology, including Enrollment Systems & Process, HRIS, Payroll, etc.
- Excellent “Learning Agility”
- Familiarity, comfort and penchant for systems and technology
- Familiarity, expertise and ability to leverage webinars and webinar technology to deliver training
- Proven team player and ability to collaborate
- Adaptability, flexibility and acceptance/comfort with change
- Leadership experience preferred
