Job Description
The Benefits Specialist sits within our People Operations function and serves as a go-to resource for employee questions navigating health, welfare, retirement, and leave programs. Operating with a high degree of independence, you’ll manage day-to-day benefits questions, ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements, and collaborate closely with payroll, leave vendors, and HR partners.
Position Responsibilities:
Benefits Administration & Employee Support
- Support employees through benefits enrollment, eligibility verification, and claims across health, welfare, and retirement plans - serving as a knowledgeable first point of contact for questions on coverage, plan options, and leave entitlements.
- Respond to benefits-related inquiries, resolving routine questions and escalating more complex issues as needed
- Maintain accurate benefits records, ensuring timely processing of enrollments, changes, and terminations
- Prepare and manage required documentation and filings in alignment with internal policies and regulatory requirements
Leave & Attendance Management
- Administer leave of absence processes, including coordinating documentation and return-to-work activities
- Track and update leave and attendance data in HR systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Partner with payroll and external vendors to manage leave cases and resolve discrepancies
- Coordinate return-to-work processes, including documentation preparation and employee communications
Experience & Knowledge:
- High School Diploma required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 6 years of experience in benefits administration or HR operations, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with HR information and employee benefits platforms and programs (health, welfare, retirement, and leave administration)
- Experience with benefits data audits and record-keeping best practices
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy
- Solid understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements related to benefits administration
- Clear communicator with the ability to explain processes to employees and stakeholders
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and work independently with limited supervision
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
The estimated wage range for this role based in North Carolina is between $32.20 – 39.10. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
