Benefits Intern
Position Title: Benefits Intern
Department: Human Resources, Benefits
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Reports To: Director of Human Resources
Employment Type: Internship (Full-Time, In Office)
The Benefits Intern will support the HR Benefits team by maintaining accurate benefits data across internal HRIS systems (Dayforce) and external provider portals (Desjardins). This role is ideal for a detail oriented individual interested in HR operations, data integrity, and employee benefits administration. The Intern will assist with routine audits, employee record updates, and eligibility monitoring to ensure timely and accurate benefits processing.
Key Responsibilities
• Review weekly Canadian Termination Reports to identify employees who have been terminated or placed on layoff.
• Deactivate terminated employees in the Desjardins portal and document updates in tracking reports.
• Conduct Termination Audit Reports to capture backdated terminations or layoffs not included in weekly reporting and update Desjardins accordingly.
• Review New Hire/Rehire Reports and update employee profiles with benefit elections.
• Ensure accuracy of coverage type and add dependent information as required.
• Mirror all benefit changes in the Desjardins portal.
• Complete the Benefits Audit Report by reviewing employee changes.
• Verify that both Dayforce and Desjardins reflect current employee status and benefit eligibility.
• Review the 500 Hour Report to identify eligible Field employees reaching the required hours for volume benefits.
• Maintain accurate and organized documentation for all benefit updates and audits.
• Support HR/Benefits staff with ad hoc reporting, data audits, and administrative tasks.
• Assist with continuous improvement of benefits processes, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
Qualifications
• Working towards a diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with confidential employee data.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel and comfortable working with HRIS platforms (experience with Dayforce is an asset but not required).
• Strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
