About Houston-Galveston Area Council 

The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than 7 million people. We are the pulse of our region addressing issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day.

What will I be doing? 

üProvide accurate, unbiased, and confidential information and enrollment assistance for Medicare and other public benefits programs, including recertification for the Medicare Savings Programs, Medicare Extra Help, and SNAP, primarily through telephone-based services.

üCreate and foster community partnerships to help reach older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout a 12-county region

üConduct outreach efforts, including health fairs, public speaking engagements, and enrollment events throughout the region

üRecruit and support volunteers to assist with program activities

üComplete data entry and required reports in a timely and accurate manner

Key Qualifications

üKnowledge of Human Services programs, legislation, and regulations, including public benefits and entitlement programs

üWillingness to travel within a 12-county region

üAvailability for some evening and weekend events

üAbility to engage in public speaking and community presentations

üAbility to pass and maintain Texas HICAP certification

üExcellent customer service and interpersonal skills

Do you have…

üA degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study  

üLess than 1 year of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school, or in job-related duties
