Fenner Dunlop designs and manufactures the widest range of bulk material handling conveyor belts in the world. We strive to be the premier provider of the safest and most reliable conveyor belting and services to a variety of heavy industrial markets such as coal mining, hard rock mining, sand, gravel, wood handling, power generation, pulp and paper. Fenner Dunlop provides North American made belting, manufactured at our facilities located throughout the United States and Canada.

For over 150 years, Fenner Dunlop has researched, designed, developed, manufactured, and tested its conveyor belting products, supporting nearly any type of conveyor application, and providing the right solutions to protect conveyor system investments in the harshest conveying environments.

What You’ll Do

Shift Leadership & Accountability

• Take charge and be accountable for all shift activities.
• Conduct shift start-up meetings at a common location to communicate priorities, safety updates (including safety flashes), and carry-over issues from the previous shift.
• When management is unavailable (e.g., weekends), provide updates and direction to the shift team.
• Communicate and implement shift schedule deviations using the shift board to meet daily production requirements (e.g., adjusting machine operation priorities).
• Organize and allocate manpower efficiently according to production priorities.
• Ensure production expectations are met and documented in the Shift Log.
• expectations are not met, document reasons and corrective measures taken, including breakdown details, contacts made, times, and status updates.
• Communicate proactively with supervisors regarding production shortfalls.

Safety & Emergency Management

• Maintain a safe working environment and enforce all safety policies and PPE requirements.
• Ensure DFF sheets and crane/forklift inspection forms are completed.
• Take charge during emergencies in the absence of management personnel.
• Report serious accidents or incidents to management immediately.
• In cases of medical emergencies requiring ambulance transport: Notify the Supervisor on shift. Contact Plant manager, Notify Safety Department.
• Address reasonable suspicion situations by reporting concerns about an employee’s fitness for duty to management.
• Maintain up to date First Aid certification.

Production & Quality Control

• Operate all machines in the assigned area with the skill and dexterity required for efficient production.
• Ensure high-quality product output by adhering to established specifications and procedures.
• Adjust production priorities as needed to maintain workflow and meet daily targets.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance Coordination

• Operate and ensure safe use of production equipment, conveyor systems, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
• Read and follow operating procedures, specifications, MSDS, MES systems, safety documents, priority lists, and schedules.
• Monitor equipment performance and coordinate with Maintenance when issues arise.
• Submit maintenance requests using Upkeep and track resolution progress.

Communication & Documentation

• Maintain accurate and detailed Shift Logs, documenting production results, safety observations, incidents, and operational activities.
• Participate in employee discussions related to performance (positive recognition or counseling), supported by observations documented in the Shift Log.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors to address employee issues on shift.
• Answer phone calls during night ring or when supervisors are unavailable, recording messages related to absenteeism, lateness, or other matters.
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills with superiors, peers, and subordinates.

Leadership & Training

• Lead crew members in the safe and efficient operation of machines and processes.
• Train, mentor, and support team members as required.
• Ensure all instructions, procedures, and specifications are understood and followed.
• Foster accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the shift.

What You’ll Need

• Grade12/ Equivalent
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Conveyor Belt Manufacturing
• Ability to work with tight deadlines
• Possess the ability to multi - task
• Previous forklift and overhead crane experience would be an asset

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• • Ability to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to move 50 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Frequent manual dexterity
  • Routinely stand, squat, and/or work in confined spaces
  • Visual acuity
  • Work in varying atmospheric & physical conditions.
