Bell Captain

Primary Responsibilities:
Greet all guests and visitors in a friendly and welcoming manner. Open doors of arriving and departing vehicles. Load and unload packages or luggage. Valet park and retrieve vehicles, tag bags, and direct guests to their destination on the resort. Deliver luggage and escort guests to their room upon check-in according to hotel standards. Provide information about the resort and its recreational facilities and dining rooms, Big Island attractions and local activities. Deliver amenities, boxes, faxes and other items requested by the guests or hotel. Answer phone at bell desk and arrange for taxi service. Direct luggage/valet attendants, coordinate the rotation of duties. Organize group luggage deliveries, bag pulls and amenity deliveries. Oversee the service at the porte cochere and insure service is personalized and provided according to standards and procedures.

Essential Duties:
• Greet guests upon their arrival at the porte cochere in a welcoming manner according to resort standards.
• Open vehicle doors promptly upon arrival/departure and load/unload luggage and packages.
• Valet park and retrieve vehicles adhering to speed limit and safety procedures.
• Deliver and extract items from guest rooms and function areas as directed.
• Escort guests to rooms with their luggage following proper procedures.
• Arrange luggage in rooms according to guest preference, providing information about the room.
• Answer phone at the bell desk and arrange luggage pick-up, transportation or other guest requests.
• Greet guests using their names whenever possible either over the telephone or in person.
• Ticket or tag luggage and locate lost luggage.
• Provide information about the Resort and its recreational facilities, dining rooms, Big Island attractions and local activities.
• Train and direct the luggage/valet attendants. Work with Management on SOPs for Bell Desk.
• Coordinate the rotation of duties, amenity deliveries, group bag deliveries or bag pull or other assignments for the luggage/valet attendant and/or trolley drivers.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Other Duties:
• Polish and upkeep luggage carts.
• Shine guest shoes upon request.
• Deliver or pick-up golf bags from the golf shop.
• Keep work area and lobby clean and orderly.
• Transport guest to/from various areas of the resort.
• Report any unauthorized or suspicious person on the guest room floors to security.
• Assist other positions in the department.

Working Conditions:
• Works primarily outdoors at the porte cochere.
• Works outdoors in various weather conditions.

Work Hours:
• Able to work shift and days determined by the manager
• Able to work in excess of 40 hours per week if needed.

• Vehicles with standard and automatic shift

Mental and Physical Demands:
• Lift and carry heavy luggage, golf bags, etc. weighing up to and over 50 lbs.
• Push and pull luggage cart with up to and over 50 lbs of luggage or bags.
• Reach and bend to load and unload heavy luggage or golf bags from vehicles.
• Able to deal with irate guests and remain friendly.
• Able to stand and walk during most of shift, climb in/out of vehicles.

Communication Demands:
• Must be able to verbally communicate with employees, managers, guests and fellow employees.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
• Must provide a valid driver’s license and a clean driving abstract (no moving violations in the past 3 years).
• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be pleasant, smiling and friendly
• Safely operate vehicles with automatic and standard shift
• PUC physical if operating resort shuttle or vehicle to transport guests
