Job Description

Performs psychological / behavioral assessments and psychotherapeutic interventions and other procedures of patients. Conducts research in accordance with IRB guidelines and approvals.

This part-time Psychologist will provide pre-surgical evaluations for psychological clearance to bariatric surgery candidates, as well as individual and group behavioral health services to pre-op and post-op program participants in support of their lifestyle change and wellness journey. This role will also evaluate and treat non-surgical patients seeking behavioral weight management counseling and will work closely with the Clinical Director and obtain ongoing supervision and training pertinent to the patient population.

Job Responsibility

  • Functions as a primary therapist and member of an interdisciplinary team; provides patient care, individual or group, in accordance with accepted principles of psychotherapy.
  • Selects formal and informal assessment methods appropriate for age, medical condition and functional status to assess patient’s psychological status.
  • Administers psychological assessments and interprets results to determine nature of problem(s) and recommend treatment necessary.
  • Evaluates children to obtain information necessary for planning and intervention in areas of cognition, learning and behavior; determines appropriate recommendations and treatment for patients evaluated.
  • Presents treatment plan and educates patient, family, and related hospital staff of procedures in a manner consistent with level of understanding.
  • Consults with referring counselors regarding patient progress, and meets with rehabilitation counselors regarding patient placement.
  • Evaluates care provided for positive patient outcomes.
  • Documents patient interventions according to department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Performs a variety of administrative tasks, including but not limited to correspondence, attending meetings, maintains records and chart.

Job Qualification

  • Doctor of Psychology required.
  • Current License to practice as a Psychologist in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
  • Knowledge and experience with behavioral medicine, strongly preferred.
  • Bariatric and/or eating disorders experience, preferred.
