POSITION: Behavioral Intervention Special Education Teacher Grades K-2

LOCATION: Woodbridge Early Childhood Education Center

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Woodbridge School District is accepting applications for a Behavioral Intervention Special Education Teacher at WECEC. This is a full-time, 10-month, benefit-eligible teaching position.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Behavioral Intervention Special Education Teacher provides targeted instructional and behavioral support for students in grades K–2 who exhibit significant behavioral, social-emotional, or self-regulation challenges. This role focuses on creating a structured, positive learning environment that promotes skill development, academic progress, and behavioral growth. The Behavior Teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers, school counselors, administrators, and families to develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs), social-emotional learning strategies, and academic supports aligned with each student's needs.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must hold or be eligible for teaching certification in elementary education in the State of Delaware
• Must hold or be eligible for special education certification in the State of Delaware
• Experience working with students with diverse learning needs and disabilities
• Ability to design and implement differentiated instruction that meets the needs of all learners
• Experience working with students exhibiting behavioral or emotional challenges, preferably in early elementary grades.
• Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), restorative practices, trauma-informed approaches, and social-emotional learning frameworks.
• Ability to collect and analyze behavioral data to inform interventions and progress monitoring.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or similar de-escalation training preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to create an inclusive, respectful, and positive learning environment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide direct instruction to students in both academic and behavioral skills, using evidence-based strategies tailored to individual needs.
• Collaborate in designing and implementing individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and progress-monitor their effectiveness.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to support consistent behavioral expectations and reinforce positive behaviors across settings.
• Model and teach self-regulation, conflict resolution, coping, and problem-solving skills to students.
• Create and maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes safety, engagement, and success.
• Collect behavioral and academic data regularly to assess progress and adjust interventions.
• Participate in IEP meetings, team conferences, and family communications regarding student progress and supports.
• Collaborate with school counselors, psychologists, and other support staff to align services and interventions.
• Provide consultation and professional support to staff regarding behavioral strategies and classroom management.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold all ethical and legal standards related to student information and interventions.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

This is a 10-month position based on a 188-day annual contract. Employees are expected to work 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the established school and district schedules. Responsibilities may include duties beyond instructional time, such as meetings, professional development, and school-related events. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, fulfill all assigned responsibilities, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district.
