Responsibilities

The Behavioral Health Clinician (BHC) is a licensed behavioral health provider who practices independently, delivering behavioral health interventions including prevention, health and behavior change, mental health diagnosis and treatment, and support for individuals with substance use disorders within Legacy Health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a fully integrated member of the clinical provider team, addressing a wide range of behavioral health conditions for all patients served by the assigned clinic or department.

  • Focuses on early identification, diagnosis, and solution-focused interventions that promote wellness and long-term prevention across the clinic’s patient population.

  • Acts as an active consultant to medical providers, nurses, clinical pharmacists, care managers, and other care team members.

  • Supports the team in providing highly efficacious and compassionate care to all patients, with an emphasis on improving care for the most complex and marginalized individuals.
  • Demonstrates strong social skills, including an ability to quickly form relationships based on trust and respect with patients and clinical team members alike

  • Exhibits flexibility, adaptability, and sound clinical judgment in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

  • Possesses advanced skills in improving overall health outcomes for patients with developmental, emotional, psychological, and behavioral concerns.

  • Provides treatment plan recommendations to the provider care team.

  • Works with families, couples, and groups is also a possibility based upon provider competency as well as clinic and patient need.
  • Clinical work is often shorter term to enable serving the needs of the broader clinic, however the care can and should be tailored to each patient’s needs.

  • Facilitates referrals and coordinates care with community partners for patients requiring specialty behavioral health services.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctor of Psychology (PhD or PsyD), Master of Social Work, Master in Professional Counseling, and/or Master of Family Therapy degree from a nationally accredited institution, fulfilling the requirements for licensure in the state of Oregon.

Experience:

  • Minimum two years of clinical treatment experience with patients and working as part of a multidisciplinary care team.

Skills:

  • Ability to diagnose and treat mental health and substance use disorders for the identified clinic population.
  • Competent to deliver evidenced based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, short term psychodynamic psychotherapy, dialectal behavioral therapy, trauma focused therapy and solution focused interventions.
  • Ability to collaborate and advocate for patients’ behavioral and physical health needs with the referring provider.
  • Ability to engage patients in health behavior change through brief interventions and health/psychoeducation.
  • Coordinate with referral resources and other clinic providers and, where appropriate, community partners to facilitate referral to appropriate specialty treatment.
  • Highly adept social skills, with strong professional presence.
  • Demonstrated competencies in diagnostic assessment of emotional, cognitive, behavioral and substance use disorders for population(s) served in clinical settings.
  • Demonstrated competency in assessment of cognitive and psychological problems associated with and/or exacerbating medical conditions.
  • Experience with delivering trauma informed care.
  • Experience with individual psycho/social treatment and conducting groups.
  • Experience treating patients with acute and chronic physical health conditions.

Licensure

  • Licensed in one of the following within applicable state:
    • Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
    • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
    • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
    • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
    • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
