The Behavioral Crisis Technician (BCT) is a vital, hands-on role responsible for maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for adolescent patients. This position focuses on preventing, de-escalating, and managing behavioral crises while supporting daily programming and patient care.

This role is ideal for individuals with experience in behavioral health, residential treatment, EMS, or direct care who are comfortable working in high-acuity behavioral environments

Key Responsibilities

Behavioral Management & Crisis Response

  • Monitor patient behavior and proactively identify signs of escalation

  • Utilize trauma-informed verbal de-escalation techniques

  • Respond to behavioral crises using approved intervention strategies

  • Assist with safe physical interventions when necessary, following training and protocols

  • Maintain a calm, controlled presence during high-stress situations

Milieu & Therapeutic Environment

  • Maintain structure within the residential unit and support daily schedules

  • Reinforce program expectations, boundaries, and coping strategies

  • Build professional, supportive relationships with adolescent patients

  • Promote a safe and respectful environment for all residents

Patient Support

  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) as appropriate

  • Support participation in group programming and therapeutic activities

  • Observe and document behaviors, triggers, and progress

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with nursing, therapists, and behavioral health leadership

  • Communicate changes in patient condition or behavior in real time

  • Participate in shift huddles and care coordination

Documentation & Compliance

  • Accurately document incidents, interventions, and patient interactions

  • Follow all safety protocols, policies, and regulatory requirements

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA

Ideal Background

We are seeking candidates who are confident, composed, and able to manage challenging behaviors in adolescent populations, including:

  • Behavioral Health Technicians / Psychiatric Technicians

  • Residential Treatment Staff

  • EMTs / Paramedics / ER Techs

  • Direct care professionals with experience in youth services

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Experience in behavioral health, residential treatment, or healthcare preferred

  • Experience working with adolescents strongly preferred

  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and de-escalation skills

  • Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain active (standing/walking) for extended periods

  • Ability to safely assist with patient handling and crisis intervention

  • Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations
