Behavior Support Consultant (HSPP) – Independent Contractor
Location: Remote (Indiana-based) with occasional meetings in Warsaw, IN
Job Type: Contract
Compensation: $70 per hour/unit
Schedule: Flexible hours based on client needs and authorizations
We are seeking a licensed Behavior Support Consultant (HSPP) to provide behavioral support services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This role is responsible for the assessment, development, oversight, and clinical approval of Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), ensuring all interventions are ethical, person-centered, and compliant with Indiana state regulations and organizational standards.
This is an independent contractor position offering flexible scheduling and primarily remote work, with occasional meetings in the Warsaw office as needed.
Responsibilities
Clinical Oversight & Plan Development
- Review, approve, and sign Behavior Support Plans (BSPs)
- Ensure plans include:
- Clearly defined target behaviors
- Evidence-based interventions and strategies
- Data collection systems for staff implementation
- Update BSPs annually or as clinically indicated
- Ensure plans are practical, implementable, and aligned with person-centered practices
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Ensure compliance with:
- Indiana Administrative Code (including 460 IAC 6)
- Medicaid Waiver requirements
- Organizational policies and procedures
- Ensure restrictive interventions are:
- Clinically justified
- Approved by the Interdisciplinary Support Team (IST) and Human Rights Committee (HRC)
- Adhere to non-aversive, positive behavior support practices
Collaboration & Consultation
- Consult with staff, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Participate in Human Rights Committee (HRC) meetings as requested
- Support staff understanding and implementation of BSP strategies
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete monthly case notes by the 5th of each month, including:
- Date and duration of services
- Service type
- Objectives addressed
- Progress updates
- Ensure documentation meets Medicaid and organizational billing standards
Professional Standards
- Maintain ethical and clinical standards consistent with licensure
- Protect confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements
- Maintain independent contractor status while aligning with agency expectations
Qualifications
Required
- Active Health Service Provider in Psychology (HSPP) license in the State of Indiana
- Professional liability insurance with minimum $1,000,000 coverage
- Knowledge of:
- Positive Behavior Support (PBS) principles
- Non-aversive intervention standards
- Ability to meet documentation deadlines and billing requirements
- Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and attend required meetings
- Willingness to follow organizational policies and procedures
Preferred
- Experience supporting individuals with:
- Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
- Autism spectrum disorder
- Co-occurring mental health diagnoses
- Experience developing and reviewing:
- Behavior Support Plans (BSPs)
- Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
- Familiarity with:
- Medicaid Waiver services (FSW, CIH, or similar)
- Indiana BDDS/BDS systems
- Human Rights Committee (HRC) processes
- Strong skills in:
- Data analysis and behavior function identification
- Staff training and coaching
- Writing clear, DSP-friendly behavior plans
