BHA Academy Behavior Specialists collaborate across interdisciplinary teams to ensure that behavioral supports, instructional strategies, and data-driven interventions align with each individual’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) and functional behavior needs. They lead through example—coaching staff, empowering teams, and ensuring fidelity of implementation across all environments.

This is a safety-sensitive position. Employees must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including maintaining continuous alertness, providing direct supervision, driving individuals served as required, and administering medications as trained

Requirements

Education & Experience:

· Enrolled in master’s level coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis, Education, Psychology, or related field, or a bachelor’s in the related field above, and 7 years of related work experience.

· Master’s degree or higher in Applied Behavior Analysis, Education, Psychology, or related field preferred.

· Minimum 5 years of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral disorders (school experience strongly preferred) (7 years with a bachelor's degree).

  • Strong knowledge of IDEA, IEP processes, FBA/BIP development, and data-based decision-making
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data collection systems

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Compassion with Purpose

· Approach each individual with empathy and high expectations, understanding the story behind the behavior.

· Assist teachers in creating trauma-informed, individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) rooted in dignity and positive support.

· Model compassionate leadership, maintaining calm and supportive engagement during crisis or escalation.

Structure Builds Safety

· Establish predictable, consistent systems of support that foster individual regulation and staff confidence.

· Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop proactive strategies aligned with the Academy’s structured learning model.

· Train staff to maintain consistent routines, reinforcement systems, and environmental structures that support safety and learning.

· Document history, assessments, and interventions to reflect a comprehensive and integrated approach to patient care.

Professionalism in Every Moment

· Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards in all interactions.

· Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to staff implementing ABA-based supports.

· Participate actively in IEP meetings, family consultations, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

· Train teachers and paraprofessionals in evidence-based ABA strategies, prompting hierarchies, and reinforcement systems.

· Use data collection and analysis to inform instruction, measure IEP progress, and adjust interventions.

· Participate in ongoing professional development to refine clinical and educational expertise.

Consistency Creates Change

· Maintain fidelity of all implemented behavioral interventions through regular observations, feedback, and data review.

· Lead crisis response and de-escalation efforts with calm consistency, ensuring safety and learning recovery through modeling and coaching to BHA staff.

· Ensure that all individual programming aligns with BHA protocols and state regulations.

Reunification is Our Mission

· Design interventions that promote long-term individual success and transition to less restrictive environments.

· Collaborate with public schools, families, and external partners to support reintegration goals.

· Document individual outcomes and progress toward reunification benchmarks.

Advocacy Through Action

· Champion the rights, dignity, and inclusion of every individual.

· Provide family training and support to enhance consistency across home and school environments.

· Serve as a clinical advocate in IEP meetings and cross-agency collaborations, ensuring equitable access to supports.

Other Duties

· Perform other duties and special projects to support Academy and organizational initiatives as assigned.

· Conduct staff training, supervision, and performance evaluations as assigned.

· Participate in on-call rotations for behavioral crisis response.

· Complete all documentation, billing, and reporting requirements in accordance with BHA and regulatory guidelines.

· Uphold BHA’s mission and values in all work performed.
