The Role

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Bee Keeper to care for and maintain the College’s beehives, supporting biodiversity and sustainability initiatives across the Ormond campus. Reporting to the Senior Gardener, this role involves routine hive inspections, seasonal hive management, honey extraction and maintaining the overall health and productivity of the colonies. The role is expected to require approximately 1–2 hours per week, with a regular day and time preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine hive inspections and monitor hive health.
• Perform seasonal hive management including swarm prevention and harvesting.
• Maintain hive equipment and support honey extraction and processing.
• Keep accurate hive records and report any biosecurity concerns.
• Work independently and safely while following College OH&S procedures.
• Provide and maintain personal beekeeping equipment.

About You

You are reliable, self-motivated and confident working independently, with a genuine passion for beekeeping and sustainability.

Essential Criteria:

• Proven experience in beekeeping and hive management.
• Current beekeeper registration with the relevant State authority.
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Current Working with Children Check (Employee) or willingness to obtain one.
• Must be an Ormond College residential student (second or third year preferred).
